too_pointer
Hey all. A friend has been looking at some Marlin lever action rifles, and caliburs for them. I believe he doesn't need any huge calibur, just something that could reach out to 200 yards or less. I see Hornady has a fairly new ammo line up called leverulation, or something like that name, that is kinda of for the tube design on levers. Thanks for any help and poinions. Mike too_
RangerClay
I have a Marlin 30-30 and my dad has one in .35 Rem. If your friend has any wishes to hunt something bigger than deer than I would recommend the .35 Win. If its just for deer than the 30-30 will do. Be sure to get some of the Honady LeveRevolution ammo for your new gun. I have been using it since it has been introduced. It is great ammo, I shoot flatter and better patterns. LETMGROW
If he is looking for more punch he should check out the Marlin MX available in .308 Marlin Express and .338 Marlin Express. Real knock down power in a lever action rifle. Lynn

redkneck
Nothing wrong with any of the above mentioned, I would personally go with a bolt gun, but if he is dead set on a lever, then I would go with Lynn's suggestion of the 308 Marlin Express. Hard to argue with 308 proven performance in a rimmed cartridge. I just never got onto the 35 bandwagon.
