It's GAMETIME in MS

Well actually yesterday started it for the youth, but my youth(10 year old brother) and I won't get to start until in the morning. We'll be waiting for that first gobble to be let out at daybreak. Low of 36, warming to the mid 60s tomorrow and clear with a light wind, so it should be good.

Plan to keep this thread going as somewhat of a "live hunt" thread since we're basically the only state open next week, and we'll be after em every possible minute since we're out for spring break. Will be focusing on him through Wednesday, then if we have a bird down for him I'll drag the shotgun out of the closet when season opens Thursday. So check in for pics and updates!

Had two hitting it pretty good off roost. Gave em a light yelp and fly down cackle and they were en route, but silent. Called em to a hill top but that's as far as they'd come since they couldn't find the invisible hen. Giving then a second, then going to loop around them.

Rhine & John...Y'all get UM during the youth season!

Fortunately the family issues I've been snowed under with are about over so I'll hit the woods Thursday, opening day. I've got a lot to do before then but when Thursday arrives I'll either be in the woods chasing turkeys or on the golf course chasing burdies.

Played cat and mouse with them this morning. Were planning to get all the way around them before gobbling light, but the ol boy decided he'd crank up a tad early this morning. Got about 150 from his roost tree and spooked a hen, so we immediately found a tree. Here's him gobbling from the roost. (only 4 gobbles during video so void the last thirtyish seconds)

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

The gobbler off the roost made his way about 100 yards north of us and we couldn't do anything with him as he was headed to a group of at least ten hens. Had two other gobblers strut at 100 yards but would not break and come in. Assume they were scared of getting their butt whooped or maybe it was because they couldn't see the hen and the woods are real open there (and no, I don't use dekes). This all went on for an hour and a half before we watched them go off our property. Pretty good idea of what they're doing every morning now, so hopefully that will work to our advantage.
