MUDRUNNER
Now that gas prices are over $4 a gallon, we are thinking of getting rid of the wifes's Suburban. Last month we spent $400 bucks on gas just for her vehicle.:jaw: We're thinking about maybee a crossover, mostly because she still wants the third row seating and 4 wheel drive. I'm not quite sold on them yet, but never driven one myself. I don't want something that resembles a mini van. Probably looking for something around 2 or 3 years old. After some research online my head is spinning from so many different models, so i though I'd ask my Realtree brothers if they have any real world experience with them. Shaun_300
I know Tominator's wife drives a Saturn Outlook, maybe he'll chime in. Being at a GM dealer I have experience with the Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia, Chevy Traverse, Cadillac SRX and Saturn Outlook. They're all basically the same with different exterior designs. They're a pretty good vehicle. Had a lot of timing chain problems with them when they first came out, but if they were going to fail the vehicle would always be in warranty. Sometimes as little as 10K miles. Other than that they're a pretty good vehicle without many known problems. Get pretty good fuel economy too. I know if I had a family I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of them.
MUDRUNNER
She REALLY likes the Enclave. A buddy of mine has one, and she went shopping with his wife a few months ago and rode in it. Only problem is they seem to be one of the most expensive of the bunch. Used ones around here are still generally over $25,000.
Shaun_300
Yes the Buicks are the most expensive, they do come with more warranty though, 4 year 50,000mi bumper to bumper vs 3 year 36,000mi in the GMC and Chevy version. Then there's the 5 year 100,000mi powertrain on top of that.
cowboy778
My wife drives a 2010 Traverse and we love it. There is plenty of room for the kids and stuff in back. We got the one with two rows of Captain chairs and individual DVDs in the headrest for the kids. Wife loves it and not too bad on gas either. wtnhunt
Back in 2008 we test drove an acadia and liked the ride ok, but we ended up with the durango. At that time none of the dealers anywhere around us had an outlook or an acadia in an awd model. Think the gm would likely have gotten better economy in a 2wd model, dunno how the 6 cyl awd model would have compared with the awd durango with the hemi. We have gotten around 20 mpg out of durango on the hwy if we keep it under 75, not too bad for an all time awd mid sized suv. The new durango's though, they look more like a crossover than an suv, and think they are supposed to get a little better mpg's.
MUDRUNNER
Well, after a little discussion I think we're just going to keep the Suburban. We just rolled over 100,000 miles, and only have about another year and a half to pay it off. If we got something new everything we save on gas would just go towards a higher car payment anyways, and the Suburban has everything she wants (heated seats, remote start, DVD player, leather) it just drinks the gas. I think I might try to throw on a K&N cold air intake, maybee some synthetic gear oil, and a programmer to see if I can get an extra 1 or 2 MPG out of it. stevebeilgard
here's my tip. i've had 8 different suburbans and can tell you now that you're getting 16 mpg. i put in bosch platinum 4 spark plugs in my last 3, and got 2 mpg average on each one. change your spark plugs and yes, do pay $8.00 a plug for platinum 4. then, you're good to go for another 100,000 miles.
