RainbowTroutHoney
How do I open my own hunting store? I would like a very general idea of what paperwork, safety regulations and permits I would need to own and operate my own outdoor store. Thanks if you can! Dawg
Contact a lawyer for info on the paperwork involved and have them start/handle all your paperwork from the beginning. Contact your local city hall for specific city codes/ordinaces. I'm sure they vary from one state and city to the other. Good luck.
RainbowTroutHoney
Thank you very much for the advice! Wonderful quote by the way. I hope I'll be lucky enough to do the same after college. Boy am I glad my momma raised me with some good old common sense and some actual manners! stevebeilgard
i'd say start with mail order only. get a list of wholesale suppliers and do a web site and advertising, showing all that you have available. remember, the cabela brothers started doing this in the 1950's, so we know it works. Ravin R10 man
I would not "open" any store other than in cyber space. I know of an outdoor shop in iron River Wi., that just closed because they cant get people in the door..she said it cost her $400 a day to be open, with the economy and gas prices, people are not going out to these stores as much, and choosing to do business with their fingers...yet another in Hayward Wis. also closed afew years ago, had a huge action, another local outdoor store bought it up and they closed a few years later even though Hayward has a pretty good summer tourist population. I guess with Walmart/ Gander Mt, and the internet it isnt easy to keep going thses days. one of our own recently posted this; case in point; this is what you are up against; [h=2] Awesome Cabelas![/h] Last cpuple times I've ordered from Cabelas, my order has come in like 2 days! Placed an order Tuesday, I had some birthday money - they had 1 cent shipping if you bought clothing. So I got a dry plus RT AP camo fleece balaclava - orginally like $35, on sale for $9, then got a rotary fly tying vice Placed it Tuesday evening, came home from work Thursday evening and there was the brown Cabelas box. Good job Cabelas! Edited April 3, 2012 by Mathews XT Man
dbHunterNY
i agree get suppliers lined up and a stock of high demand products. put a website together to sell the stuff. get the word out here about the site. bumperstickers help and are cheap. an actual store location makes for a ton of overhead costs that could otherwise go into your pocket. RainbowTroutHoney
I'm talking with a few businesses like mines to weigh the pros and cons. Once I've decided between a store online ore offline I'll begin the process of setting up a website AFTER studying the laws and regulations with an online business.
