girlsdad
What reccomendation does anyone have for a climbing stand? Looking to buy one for next year.
Emcgehee
climbing stand Make sure it is light!!!!! If I were to buy again it this would be the number 1 thing I would look at. Remember you'll likely have your stand, day pack, and bow or gun and all these things add up. I have climbed many of hills loaded down with all these things and nearly left the stand on the tree on the way home it was so bad!
whitetailfreak55
Summit is the one I have and Its light and real simple. I love it
wtnhunt
Welcome to the forums. Of the climbers I have used I really like my Summit, by far and away the most comfortable stand I have ever owned.
hoosierhunter
climbing stand Lone wolf and summit is what I have. The summit is more comfortable. The lone wolf is by far and away less noisy to set up and take down. I no longer hunt from my summit due to noise.
dbHunterNY
depends on how you hunt and what you hunt with. Summit and Lone Wolf stands are second to none. i have a summit openshot and it's the lightest out there to pack in really far. it's got no front rail and really open, perfect for archery hunting. however, the platform is smaller. if you gun hunt and don't move the treestand much or leave it attached to the tree, then something like the summit viper would be better; bigger platform, side bags, back rest, and front shooting rail. If you had to backpack it anywhere though, good luck not sweating and stinking up the woods... a lot.

I have an openshot for long walks and short archery hunts (2-5 hours), a viper with a rail for gun hunting, and a bushmaster for long walks and all day archery hunts. The bushmaster is more comfortable than the open shot (a little heavier too). You can always buy shooting stick(s) to stabilize your gun if you want to use a one stand for all types of hunts. My advice if you're looking for a one stand to meet all my needs would be the bushmaster. You can sit in it all day and the platform is just long enough to stabilize shooting sticks on. I find the openshot platform too short to gun hunt with.
Stinger-Hunter
Summit is the one I have and Its light and real simple. I love it Summit, in my opinion, is the only decent brand out there. The stands are well made, comfortable, adjustable and worth their price. Just make sure you lock them up. Summit treestands are highly desired by shifty-eyed criminal types that cloak themselves as hunters. In other words, they will get stolen if you don't lock them down. I had one lifted from my truck when I went into Walmart.

deer slayer
I'm also getting a climber for this season because I plan on doing alot of public land hunting. In what I've researched the Summit Viper looks like a really good stand for the money, so I think I'm gonna go with that one.

Good advice, can also take and etch in your name in the steel in an inconspicuous place. Not likely to ever recover a stolen stand, however if you have your name on it, the thief if caught could potentially be prosecuted.
Dawg
it's got no front rail...That makes you sound like you are from East Texas lol.I too have a Summit. Can't recall which model but it's an older style. "It's got no front rail" either. I like it tho.

"It's got no front rail" either. I like it tho. just a lil' country town rubbing off on me. suppose i should've said "it has.." not sure what the punctuation was all about either. "I seen that" is another good one. ...not having the front rail helps with the bowhunting that's for sure.
Tominator
I prefer the Summits too. Relatively light, strong, secure and most important, comfortable.
