ahh, yes. enjoy these good old days with a big smile. we'll all see much higher prices by fall....

drill more oil, keep it here, and prices will go down and we can pay off the national debt at the same time. newt doesn't stand a chance of getting the nod, but he does have it right. we can easily have $2.50 gas and no national debt. but will we??? we'll know more by december.

All about politics. I'm thinking O---ewya is looking to October. The prices will fall just in time to dupe people into thinking he did something good in hopes of getting votes.

gotta disagree. obama said early on that he's o.k. with higher gas prices and expects $12.00 a gallon in our future. just 2 weeks ago his energy czar said they have no plans for lower gas prices and expect european prices ($9-12) a gallon here in the near future. i could tell you that obama wants us all walking or driving little cars, but he's telling that to us himself. it's real clear to me, that's for sure.

obamas politics are to lie to us. 2 years ago was the "summer of recovery". we are currently, as in right now, hearing that we are recovering nicely and doing well. 8% unemployment (another low estimate lie) is the normal thing, and his jobs program is working. personally, i know of no one doing as well now as they were 3 years ago. his whole strategy is to blame others and tell us how well his plan is working. i'm betting on $5.00 gas by october.

4.15 in Louisville Ky. It was .79 a gallon when I started driving, Wouldn't that be awesome now.

first, welcome to the forums, young man. i remember 18 cent gas and actually quit smoking when cigarettes went from 20 to 22 cents per pack. but, i'd sure like to see 79 cent again, thats for sure.

the real problem here is that in a few years, i think we may well look back to now remembering "the good old days" of only $4 gas.

Can remember gas under a $1 a gallon when I started driving and a good while after I started driving.

I do think Mike is right on what will happen with Obama in regards to oil and our gas prices. Just my speculative opinion, but I think we will see prices fall in late September to early October and Obama attempting to take credit for things getting better as he has done with the economy. May be that we see reserves released and a large number of permits for drilling expedited. He is very good about blaming others and taking credit for things he had nothing to do with and having people fall for it and the mainstream media is good about helping him.

Still holding at $3.87-$3.89 for reg. unleaded here.

I believe Obama will do what he can to lower the gas prices but I don't expect a great decline in them. He'll do just enough to get people off his back for a little while just in time for the election. If elected again, the prices will soar and he won't have any intention of bringing them down due to the possibility of it being his last term.

I'd like to see $2.50/gal again but don't think it will happen. Paying off the national debt is going to take a lot more than just drilling and keeping our oil here at home. My great grandchildren won't see our debt paid off in their lifetime.

Obama will not do anything for gas prices. He could right now if he wanted but dont count on that happening. My bet is he will let them continue to creep up and use it again to push the need for alternative energy. I know its moot point with us but there are still hoards of mindless voters out there that believe some miracle energy cure is looming, waiting for a cause.

The fact is with the over taxation on energy, and the stranglehold of the EPA, etc. the gas companies are sending fuel overseas where they have a higher margin of profit. Another thing that puts a burr under my saddle is the argument that even if we drill we won’t see results for 2-years, that’s a load. However, even if it were true who cares. At least in two years when that oil hits the open market things will get better and we won’t float another two years wishing for cheaper energy.

Btw, keep in mind that the cost to extract fuels and chemicals from a barrel of oil is VERY expensive. I know we don’t like to admit that but one process heater will cost MILLIONS of dollars. At the same time that heater has to be fired and gases such as Natural Gas are often used. Each heater has several burners. Those burners are on average say 6 million BTU. If there are 12 burners in a heater and the burners are being over fired at a rate of 6.7 - 7 million BTU that is say 84 Million BTU for the heater. That’s a lot of energy consumption or SCF (pronounce “Scuff”) required to get a heater to say 1500f and keep it there 24/7.

Now add to that drilling (very expensive and highly profitable industry), shipping (also very expensive and highly profitable), refining (again, highly expensive, very profitable, and highly specialized, all under the watchful eye of the EPA and then taxed like crazy), and then you have to get that fuel to market.

I know there are ways to get the cost of fuel down (and it needs done) but considering some of the challenges in the industry im actually amazed gas isn’t 2x the current price.
