toddpipkin
I am a former conservation officer, and currently a municipal police officer in a small city. I am professional, career law enforcement officer. I am seeking a good, law-abiding, NON-BAITING hunting club for my 15-year-old son and I. Prefer Monroe or Clark counties, will consider others within reasonable distance. Over the years, I have held membership in seven hunting clubs in south Alabama and in the Black Belt region. I have left every one of them due to blatant violations of law, BY OTHER MEMBERS OF THE CLUB. They expected me to ignore their violations because we were buddies and/or members of the same club. Nope, never happened, never will. Most of these violations were for baiting. There have been other law violations, and other, non-law-related factors involved with some of them, most commonly excessive drinking and partying all night, preventing the real hunters from sleeping. In each case, when asked to end the behavior which was causing problems, the other members refused. When the subject was brought up to club "leaders", they also refused to do anything about it. Also, for a VERY short time, I was a member of a club which advertised 2000 acres of land. After being in the club for I while, I realized that it just didn't add up. I didn't see 2000 acres. I found out that the regular club members were allowed to hunt only 1400 acres. The other 600 was set aside as PRIVATE for the club president, but paid for with the funds from members dues. And the president's membership dues were waived. He hunted all 2000 acres for free. In the cases of violations of law, the next step was to notify the local Conservation Officer. Which I did, and am not ashamed of, and which I will do again if necessary. In a couple of cases, the officer could not get there right away, so I made the arrests myself. Again, I have NO regrets for these actions, and would repeat them if the situation called for it. My son and I want a place to hunt, where ALL members share equally in the financial burden, the physical labor of maintaining the property, and the opportunity to hunt all parts of the property. My wife, daughter, son-in-law or grandson(s) may join us occasionally. We mostly hunt deer, but also enjoy some small-game hunting as a warm-up. My son got a bow for Christmas, and has practiced very hard. He wants to try bowhunting deer and/or hogs. We have not hunted turkeys, but my son has said he wants to give it a try. Water on the property, or on the border of the property would be a BIG plus. That boy would rather fish, than eat when he's hungry!! We don't have a camper, so we want to get into a club with a clean place to stay, which as also QUIET ENOUGH TO SLEEP!!! If we have to, as long as we have a place to get a hot shower, we can camp in our tent. We did that for the whole hunting season in 2009-2010. I have no problem with a person of legal age having a drink or two at the end of a day. After all chores are done on club work days. On hunting days, after ALL hunters are back in camp and ALL guns are put away for the night. I do have a problem with someone getting so drunk that they forget others and forget their manners. Or who becomes obnoxious or talks or behaves in a vulgar manner around my wife or children or grandchildren. Or gives alcohol to someone not of legal age. Or who drives a vehicle, or operates machinery, or who in any way handles a gun, while or after drinking. I lose patience with a person like that very quickly. There, you know exactly where I stand. I am currently working three jobs, and filling in occasionally on two others, to raise and save the money necessary to get into a good club. I think I have enough now to pay reasonable dues. If you know of a club in the south half or so of Alabama, that you think may be a good fit, please reply here or shoot me an email at -- [email protected]
