dbHunterNY
#63-66 down! went to my parent's house again.... lots of fields mowed and i had an hour and a half before dark. i got the four woodchucks in the picture. plus, another one i hit right over it's hole and it made it down the hole. another i'm pretty sure i hit but lost track of the location in the field and couldn't spot it. for the running tally we'll only add the four confirmed in the picture. i spotted two more chucks this evening, but they ran down into their holes as i was driving the atv from location to location and didn't come back out. i'll be back for those i'm sure. Tominator
My son's buddy has a chuck problem. Looking to get out there soon.
dbHunterNY
good luck what that Chris... early morning, around noon, and late evening are the best times. so yesterday morning we unloaded some more hay wagons. before things got going, i managed to get out quick to the fields.... add #67 and #68 to the list! both popped there heads out quick to check things out and that was enough. one was actually in the neighbor's hay field. Tough to keep up with the woodchuck population, but most of the chucks lately have been taken from new holes. So I imagine taking them is definitely a good thing. Adjam5
Your averaging about a dozen a week! They do help keep the shooting skills sharp until deer season. I rolled one myself this morning. Filmed it again Usually within an hour or so. The Vultures or crows are all over them.
dbHunterNY
lol i don't know about a dozen a week but the count is climbing. congrats on rolling another Anthony.
dbHunterNY
add five more to the count (#69-73) got one over the weekend and four this afternoon during visits to the farm. don't have enough time to keep up with them though.... more and more holes are showing up every where it seems. below is a pic of the ones from this afternoon. JD Gator works good for gathering them up.
dbHunterNY
#74 down.... snuck out to the closest field to the house for a couple minutes and managed to get a younger one. didn't range it, but guessing it was somewhere close to 225 yards. Adjam5
Man you are layin down the smackdown on them critters Dan! Is your woodchuck rifle your favorite one?
dbHunterNY
yes it is, it's a little heavy, but when you can clover leaf shots at 200 yards on a good day, it's hard not to be a favorite. i'll be working on getting some stuff from Todd to make me happier with my deer rifle, but for now yup. beside i like the look of it too; laminated stock, stainless action, and a big ol' scope that gets things done. ...if i seriously had more time i'd really be layin'em down though. like elkoholic said you could be pushing 200+ a year. definitely think some gas bombs and filling in holes are in order once we do the 2nd cutting of the hay fields. ...if we even get enough rain to get a 2nd crop of hay. between fresh new holes and old ones waiting to be occupied it's impossible to keep up with them. dbHunterNY
#75 and 76 down... yesterday i was at the farm again. brought the camera. shot the first one at close to 253 yards. other half was running the camera, but zoomed in with no tripod she couldn't stay on it. hunted down an old tripod of my dad's. went back out and shot the second one at 236, with much better footage. we went back to the house i traded my gun for the camera and went out with my uncle. i messed up the best footage of the day when he made a 200+ yard shot and i didn't hit the record button well enough. after i did manage to get footage of him missing big fat woodchuck at about 100 yards. my dad was also out in another field and managed to get one. it was a quick, but fun afternoon. i'll have to setup and online account somewhere to post some of the footage on here when i have time. dbHunterNY
#77 down..... yesterday evening i was done with a "to do list" and ended up at my parent's house. brought camera and my chuck gun. ended up getting one and my uncle missed one. grass in the fields is tall and it'll help once the fields are cut again. dbHunterNY
#78 and 79 down.... seems as though i'm not getting out as much and not seeing as much due to the tall growth in the fields. managed to get a couple more though. range finder battery went dead so i had to guess. i think they were just over 250 yards (260-270 ish) and right at 300 yards. the 300 yard one was a poke, because i could only see it's head and managed to connect. dbHunterNY
#80 down.... same field. thought i spotted something with the binos and just picked out it's head through the grass when i zoomed into 18x.
Adjam5
Holy macaroni! Man are you putting the hurtin on them critters! Congrats. Has this year been your personal best?
dbHunterNY
actually anthony it isn't... this year with the lack of rain the fields have only been cut once up until now. some years we've cut fields twice and even a few three times. that means more opportunity to spot them and less time they can hide in the tall hay. in past years before i've gotten more, but shot more too. pretty high woodchuck to shot ratio with the savage i've had now for a few years. it's opportunity has alluded me but once i came close to two chucks in one shot.
