huntinsonovagun Posted April 10, 2012 Report Share Posted April 10, 2012 Just looking for ideas of gifts you guys have given to farmers/ranchers as a way of showing your appreciation for letting you hunt. I intend on helping out where I can here and there, but what are some good gift ideas you've heard of, given, or even received. I had a buddy say he used to give boxed of assorted nuts and bolts, which I thought was interesting. I thought of a custom knife, but ranchers are more about practicality IMO. What say ye? I sliced up an entire Turkey breast once for a guy and brought it to him in a Ziploc. Have done the same with smoked sausage. Just a way of sharing what he shared with you. If they don't like wild game then maybe give them a quality ready to serve ham or smoked turkey or gift card to a restaurant like Tom mentioned. If you could afford to spend say $100 you could really make an impression. Go buy a cheap tool bag, stuff it with leather gloves, zip ties, a good funnel, white lithium grease, maybe a good grease gun, WD40, etc. Sounds pretty simple but those are things that get used on a regular basis whenever you have a ranch/ tractors/ etc. However, they are things typically in short supply and not laying around when you need them. dbHunterNY Posted April 10, 2012 Report Share Posted April 10, 2012 yup help on the ranch is always a good thing. when you do, you see consumable items and of what kind they use like grease, bailer twine, etc. good idea to pick some of it up. they know it's something they could use. that all sounds like good ideas given above. colorado bob Posted April 10, 2012 Report Share Posted April 10, 2012 I use to give a big basket of fruits & goodies. Mrs.Rancher always liked it. I would also do a weekend of farm chores. Fixing fence, bucking bales of hay, etc. Whatever needed to be done. He would let me turkey hunt & prairie dog shoot. I was to only one he would let on the place. stevebeilgard Posted April 11, 2012 Report Share Posted April 11, 2012 some real good ideas so far. don't forget about something you made or grew, like a bushel of appels or a bag of carrots. but the best is to offer to help and/or feed the animals for a day or 4 so the farmer can get some vacation days this summer. I'd say give them some meat or if he/she is married then id give them each a visa card with some money on it. You can use a visa card any where; a sporting goods store, walmart, clothes stores.
