Got any pictures/videos of things you have done in the past?

I just got my First Responder license a few weeks ago! Got my app in at a local volunteer FD. Just waiting for them to get their first responder unit and I should be on! Small town of 400, But we can get er' done.. Also on the local ESDA (Emergency Services and Disaster Agency)

So lets hear it!

Ex-police officer, volunteer firefighter, and still a certified EMT in the state of Oklahoma. I haven't been on any fires this year, but I was the first medical responder ( was a spectator ) to a broken femur during an intramural basketball game about a month ago at NWSU.

If I may ask, What made you get out of being a police officer?

Been a vollie about 7 years. Work a lot of wrecks at times, but never took the EMR plunge, maybe it's those calls at 1 in the morning about rectal bleeding that keep me from taking the next step.

Haven't been at it as hard as this year, been busy with softball 5 days a week lately and I got a little put off with a couple members and some other things at our dept. Lack of professionalism at times and no real sense of purpose during others. I realize some of the guys haven't a freaking thing to do in their life, but I have better things to do than come to a meeting and BS for almost 2 hours. Kinda sad cuz I used to jump at a 3.30 am fire call.

Well I moved from Wilburton where I was an officer to Durant and couldn't get on right away. In the down time I was waiting for the highway patrol I landed my current job and make 6 times the salary I did as a police officer. I miss it, but I am happy with my career choice.

Been in EMS now for nearing 17 years. At first fully volunteer, now paid on call if pennies on the dollar count as paid. We are still considered a volunteer department, EMS based, not Fire. NREMT-B and Wisconsin EMT-Intermediate Technician. I'm also an All Hazards Incident Management Team Member for the Northeast Wisconsin Region.

This is not my job though as being a full time registered land surveyor doing surveying and engineering pays my family's bills.

Was on the F.D. here for 5 years as a firefighter and EMT. Paid on call and worked 2 -3 12 hour shifts a week, plus my fulltime job. Loved every minute of it when I was single. Family and my regular job come first and I didnt want to lose any family time so I called it quits. Had a blast tho! The smell of somthin burning still gets me excited haha

Are you guys MABAS down there? Up here implementing MABAS (mainly the enforceable policy/procedure stuff) will be a rude awakening to many local, volunteer fire departments. They will have to step up or step away.

And yes, we have a hard time recruiting fire guys on the EMS side because of the commitment requirement. They don't like the dramatic increase in training requirements and that darn thing called a "schedule"!!! Of course it may be the GI bleeds that you mentioned too :clown:

Graduated from Lake Superior College last year with an A.A.S. in Fire Technology and Administration. The school is located in Duluth, MN and has a very reputable fire program. We had people from all over the state and country enroll. I've been on the volunteer fire department in our township now for about two and a half years, my dad's been on for four years now I think. I also work part-time on the Lake County Ambulance Service in Two Harbors, MN. I've been there for almost two years now.

We average anywhere from 700-900 calls a year on the ambulance which is a very manageable call volume. You might get one or two calls per 12 or 13.5 hour shift and maybe 3-5 on busy days. It's a good balance where you can relax and hang out but still get enough calls to feed your hunger for patient care lol. I'm actually on duty right now and just got back from a call.
