wtnhunt
Anyone use this mount on any of their ml'ers or familiar with these mounts? Got a new accura and this mount came with the gun, supposed to be a medium mount and good for up to a 42 mm objective, no way a 42 mm scope would clear with the mount on this gun. Looks more like a low mount. See where I can exchange the mount that came with the gun for a high mount or open sights. Scope I bought for the gun is a 3-9x40 and it is almost touching the barrel, not even close to being enough clearance to get the scope cover at the objective end on. Also the hammer on the gun is probably somewhere between and 1/8th and 1/4 of an inch from hitting the scope, which it is clearing and that is not an issue, but getting the hammer back in the cold with gloves on might be an issue because I can barely get my thumb on the hammer spur under the scope now without gloves. Really think I need the higher mount, anyone know if the high durasight mount is more like a medium mount?
dbHunterNY
william, i've just got back from Maine and the Cabelas up there. i ended up picking up an Optima with Durasight mounts and a Cabelas 40mm Powderhorn scope. I'll be looking into it in the next couple days. i'll let you know anything i find out.
wtnhunt
Had considered the powderhorn, they had the scope in camo on sale at $59.99 back before I ordered the gun and when I ordered the gun the scope was back to regular price. Post some feedback on the scope when you have had some time in with it. Read some reviews on the cabelas scope, seemed mixed, kinda helped lean me towards a nikon. Some of the pics in the cabelas catalogs show the high mount and some show the med mount with 40 mm objectives. Went back over the weekend and looked at some reviews on the mount and see where some had clearance issues in regards to the hammer with this mount. Anyhoo, think I am probably going to send this mount in and exchange it, last thing I want to have is fumbling around to get the hammer back on a cold November morning when a nice buck gives me an opportunity. dbHunterNY
yea i've got pretty much the same problem it sounds like. There's just enough room to cock the hammer back with the scope. with the scope on the hard scope caps don't really fit around the bell. it'll work though i think. it does allow for a nice cheek weld. i figure i've got a couple options; a Butler Creek bikini scope cover or get the same mount in HIGH. Doesn't say the height on online last time i checked.
wtnhunt
i figure i've got a couple options; a Butler Creek bikini scope cover or get the same mount in HIGH. Doesn't say the height on online last time i checked. I sent cva a message Thursday asking the height difference and also asked about their "exchange" policy on the mount, have not heard back from them yet. The cheek weld is good like you say, but I still have concerns with getting the hammer back with gloves on, just not enough room and the last thing I want to worry with when I am about to take a shot is trying to get the hammer back. Learned the hard way about fumbling with a safety and gloves on an old mossberg and a nice gobbler.
wtnhunt
Just heard back from cva. The medium mount is .500" and the high is .800". That .3 would sure make a difference.
