Turkeygirl
Went out to pattern my gun with the new sights. I grabbed some of my small game shells to use first to get the sight close. Well I didn't realize until several shots later that the small game shells I grabbed were steel, and I was shooting those through my Undertaker choke that says lead only....NOW WHAT? Do you think the choke is ok or should I get a new one? I'm wondering now if that is why the shots were hitting left despite adjusting my sight.... Any help ASAP would be appreciated! dbHunterNY
you still might be ok... first i'd see if you can remove the choke. that'll tell you if it expanded any and is weakened. also, check for cracks in the choke as well as your gun barrel. if it comes out alright with no cracks, then inspect the inside bore of the choke and around the ports. if it looks marred, dented, or has any shallow grooves then ya it'd be a good idea. otherwise, i think you'd be ok. might what to put one of your flush chokes in and compare the point on impact to your undertaker to see if it got torqued too. that's what i'd say.... let us know how you make out Ruth. Turkeygirl
Choke came out fine....didn't notice any damage to anything. I did give the barrel a good cleaning and put in the super full factory choke that came with the gun....Going to shoot it tomorrow and see how it patterns in comparison to the Undertaker...if I have a decent pattern, I'll just use that for the season. ncturkey
Glad to hear your choke did not get hurt or cracked. One thing it is good to check your point of impact(POI) verus your point of aim(POA). But you do not to check your turkey load you plan on turkey hunting with. Cause from load to load your POI verus POA could change. Plus check your POI to POA at 40 yards too. You may have to adjust it a little at 40 yards. Plus I use a 36" wide paper to pattern my shotgun so I can see the whole pattern. Good Luck on your patterning and the turkey hunting too.
