Kevo72
I posted this in another forum (the lounge) and I believe it was the wrong place to post it. But I'll try again here. I have no scent control clothes. I am primarily old fashion. I play the wind and wash my stuff with scent away. I don't gas the truck up prior to going out and I don't wear my clothes straight out of the house. My friend has been trying to get me to buy scent control clothing, whether it be scent blocker or scent Lok. I am skeptical to say the least. Any they carry a hefty price tag. Would it be worth buying the base layers only or is it wla waste of money to do so?
Emcgehee
scent control clothes If you bow hunt like me, I personally will take any advantage I can get. You still have to play the wind, but if it swirls on you at just the wrong moment, it might just save you. I waited until my scentlok was on sale. You can get very cheap camo at academy at the end of the year. When they put stuff on clearence, they want it gone quick!
Kevo72
scent control clothes Yeah bow hunting is what I do. I try to look at reviews but really doesn't help. I don't know if I could afford a whole set that is why I wondering if the base layers are worth my time and money.
whitetailfreak55
Try looking on Amazon. My dad uses just base layers and he kills deer every year. I use a full suit from cabelas and base layers. It can't hurt to have everything that's supposed to help
hoosierhunter
Scent control clothing helps, but in no way is it perfect. There are so many other factors that go into scent than just clothes. Here's some examples. What do you wash you body with? What is the towel you dry off with washed and dried in. Do you spray completely down and dress completely at the field? Not even boots in the truck. Do you keep ALL hunting gear(boots, bag, release, rattle bag etc) in scent proof containers until you get to the field? What did you eat prior to hunting? Do you control your breath scent? How high is your stand and what cover is around it? How often do you wash your clothes after hunting? Do you make sure you don't sweat walking to the stand? Do you make sure you don't cross a major trail on the way to the stand? Do you smoke? That smell will never come off from a simple shower. That's just a few questions you need to answer. Scent control clothing doesn't matter if you don't manage everything else.
Kevo72
scent control clothes Honestly I do about 99% of that. Being in the military I know what your saying about the smoking thing... I smelled people way before I seen them. I was taught the more you do the more success you will have. I use to leave all my stuff in the woods. I just don't know enough about the clothing, If buying base layers is not a waste of time then I will try it along with what I already do. I use mostly BDU's woodland and I just bought some Marine digital woodland BDU's. I use all the goretex I acquired in the military and trust it highly. Like I said if base layers are not worthless by themselves I'll try it.
dbHunterNY
i've done it all... you can still get busted even if you do everything perfect with your scent control and wear all the gear. however, i've noticed that when i do get busted game often take seconds longer to head for the hills. so in my opinion it helps, because sometimes a few seconds more is all you need. i figure from a whitetail's side of things, it's like smelling a slight odor opposed to sticking your head in a gym bag. the time it takes you to make up your mind that you don't want anything to do with the odor is drastically different. any little bit helps, it's just your own subjective opinion as to how far you're willing to go with scent control. hoosierhunter
scent control clothes Kevo I think your military gear is fine and base layers would work. From the camo standpoint just make sure none of the clothes have UV in them and your fine. If your a military guy and you take hunting somewhat seriously you are ahead of 90% of people because of your discipline.
Kevo72
scent control clothes Dumb question, but what does UV have to do with clothing and how would I even know if it did have UV in it?
hoosierhunter
scent control clothes It's a brightened that some animals including deer can see. Any good camo shouldn't have it, but not sure about military clothing.
