texastrophies
My '06 D-Max water tempature normally runs just below the 210 mark. Last weekend I noticed that while driving at highway speeds it was a little cooler than that and then when I slowed down or just driving in town it was running around 160 and would fluctuate up and down depending on if moving or not. I spoke with our mechanic at work about it, and we both decided it was either the thermostat or the guage. Figured the easy thing to do would be switch out the thermostat first. Went to buy one, and O'reilly's didn't have it in stock and said they would order the "kit". What kind of kit do you need for a thermostat? Went back the next day to get my kit and it turned out to be two thermostats. They are installed back to back with one of them having two small bypass holes in it. What is the reason for two thermostats? BTW, that fixed my temperature problem.
Shaun_300
I don't work on diesels so I'm not 100% sure so don't quote me on this, I believe one opens earlier than the other, at around 160 or so and the other one opens around 200. Not exactly sure why they do this.
