Tominator
Looks as if I will have a job next year due to some union concessions and community outcry. Our Board of Education elected to put a levy on the ballot for August for a new elementary school and some operating funds. If the levy fails, I'm sure I'll be in the same boat this time next year, so that's why I'm going back to school for yet another degree. Not really looking forward to it; really tired of reading theory, putting it into practice, then writing a paper on it, but at this point in my career, it's what I have to do. Thought you'd all like to know. As always, thanks for the thoughts and prayers, they are appreciated.

redkneck
Good deal Chris, I need a plan B myself, this automotive business is on shaky grounds these days. Hope things work out well for you. What degree are you looking to add now?

Tominator
What degree are you looking to add now? I will have another Masters this time next year and it will be in Intervention Specialist Curriculum. That's fancy education talk for special ed. This move serves a few purposes: 1--I now have a continuing contract which means I can bump anyone with less experience than I do. 2--I've always kind of gravitated towards the special ed. kid. I think it's a "rooting for the underdog" type of thing. 3--I can take that degree and go just about anywhere. There are ALWAYS openings in special ed. because it's such a tough area to teach and the laws surrounding it, with the complementary paperwork associated with it, is staggering. It's a lot of extra work. Only upside is the class sizes max out around 7 or 8 kids usually. Prior to the other day, I actually had about 4 or 5 plans all in line, ready to go. My plan "E" was, collect unemployment and use that money to fund my new degree. This degree will be close to $12,000 out of pocket when it's all done, but it will pay for itself in 6 years. It's just something that I have to do. Ohio teachers just found out the other day, that if you have less than 20 years of teaching, (this is year 19 for me) you now have to teach for 35 years instead of 30 to be eligible for retirement. After that, you have to put in 35 years or be 60 yrs old to be eligible. I'm not complaining, I love teaching, but it just makes me wonder how districts are going to afford to pay all of these old teachers. We're expensive, lol.
