mgreene18
Hello just wanted to say I'm new to realtree forum. Im an avid turkey and deer hunter however this summer me and a buddy of mine were planning on doing some coyote hunting on some private land. I tried this last year over an open field and some call my father had but had no luck seeing anything other than a possum....is there any tips yall have for me? Im planning on going down early saturday morning, about sunrise, and using a .270. thanks
redkneck
Some on here far more accomplished at it than me, but I will tell you scent control is at the top of the list for calling in a coyote. Lots of good set-ups, calls, tips, tricks etc you can read up on, but the dogs are extremely smart and will approach from downwind, and if all is not right you will never see them. Welcome to the forums, where are you from?

redkneck
Good folks on here, hope you stick around. Might want to make a post in the lounge and tell folks a little about yourself and interests and meet some of them. John

dbHunterNY
welcome to the forums... he's right. there's some good people. setup at the edge of a clearing and keep your rifle scope power cranked all the way down. what's worked in the past is having the wind blow out in front of you. go 20 yards to your right and hang a scent bomb with coyote and rabbit scents, then go 20 yards left of your setup and hang another one. a coyote will work down wind until it cuts the scent of what it thinks it should smell. if it's tighter terrain bring your turkey gun and even better set it up to throw buckshot or T shot. if you're not hanging on to it shove something under it to keep the receiver off the ground a little so you can pick it up quicker and easier. for beginner calling get an electronic caller. practice real sounds you hear on it and elsewhere with hand calls until you improve with them if you like, for now using the e-caller. remember it's a critter that's going to die... don't call for a long duration. also realize that coyote's home ranges are like 5 times bigger than a turkey. give them time to come in, but don't stay in one place for more than an hour. move 1/2 mile or so to another location.
