Leo
My friend Terry and I went out on the river today. We caught a keeper each. He caught one that was just under 17" and I got one that was right at the 23" max (weighed 6 1/2lbs). I had a tarpon on my small rod back in this little creek. Sure wasn't expecting a tarpon back there! It's early in the season and it was low tide. It was about a 30lb or bigger fish. It jumped six times and stripped all 150 yards of 30lb line off my little rig. The spool knot held but he popped the leader. There simply was no stopping him! Pretty exciting but I'm snakebit for tarpon. I always seem to hook up with one when I least expect it on inadequate gear. Since they'll probably be in that creek awhile, I may have to go back and try again with the bigger rods. God willing I'll finally get one. dbHunterNY
Nice! yea down in florida i've seen them way up stream. you'd see them upstream by hot spring sources. apparently they do fine in fresher water?
Leo
Nice! yea down in florida i've seen them way up stream. you'd see them upstream by hot spring sources. apparently they do fine in fresher water? Yep they can live in freshwater. They don't get nearly as big as they do in saltwater. Usually they don't get up in these narrow shallow creeks around here. They also usually aren't here until end of June. Gonna have to do some thinking to get one out of that creek even with heavier gear. All he is gonna have to do is go around a bend and cut me off on an oyster rake.
