kcall
whats the better broadhead between these for shoulder shots, quartering away, and good blood trails? 1. swhacker 2. grim reaper 3. rage
whitetailfreak55
I've used grim reapers and the rage. Didn't like the rage from the start and I just switched from grim reapers to g5 montecs. Like the fixed blade better

whitetailfreak55
They work good but You got to clean them out after shooting something or they won't open up right
dbHunterNY
the contents of your question somewhat contradict each other. the biggest blood trails, all things being equal, will be from the biggest cut. the best broadhead to go through shoulder blades would be the one with the least cutting diameter and most durable tip to sustain itself after impact with bone. also Rage is a brand with many different broadheads. If you want to go through shoulder blade your best option would be the Rage Chisel Tip head or the shwacker for durability. although the most durable, i don't like the design of the shwacker. it opens up after it's penetrated so the entrance hole isn't as big. cut wise and potential blood trail would have to go to the grim reapers, but so far all the deer I've seen shot with a normal 100gr 2-blade Rage head have been more than enough to follow. any mechanical head should be cleaned really well. choose one and go with it until you find it doesn't work for you. the broadhead debate will only give you opinions 95% of the time. redkneck
Well put Dan! There's always a trade-off no matter what you choose, cant get the best of everything. If you are looking at mechanicals (which it seems like you are) take a look at these when you go shopping: Edge - Broadhead - Trophy Taker Nifty features I like that fixes some of my dislikes with the Rage. I have not tried them yet, not even suggesting I am going to or that you should, but I think it looks good in theory anyway, I may pick some up this fall. shawn8157
I'm a big two blade rage fan, I've killed my share of deer with them and never had an issue. However, I will not take a quartering to shot on a deer with any broadhead. Giving time most animals will present you with a broadside or slightly quartering away shot, as bowhunter I believe we owe it to are game to make the most ethical shot possible. This is just my opinion, and when it comes to broadheads you'll find lots of opinions. Good luck, and pick something that you have confidence in. deer slayer
I use Rage 3 blade broadheads, and they've worked good for me. I shot a doe last season with em, it was a pass through and she only took 10 steps n dropped.

deer slayer
Rage is bad..plain and simple mine bent badly when I shot it into a broadhead target I will never get them again. I use swhacker and love them!! See now I like Rage I think they're great. I mean I still use the broadhead I shot that doe with, and it passed all the way through her and buried in the ground. And about that target your not really supposed to shoot em into a one... That's why they come with a practice tip lol
Cole14bowhunting
broadheads Hahaha thanks but I also shot a coyote with one and bent in the coyote to
JimT
I am not a big Rage fan either. The blades open up way to easy. My favorite broadhead is the Rocky Mountain Assassin. They are only $20.00 a three pack, fly true and put meat on the table. I exited the latest and greatest craze several years ago and have stuck with what works for me. Waiting for the right shot is the key. If the right shot does not materialize on a particular sit it just might on the next.
