killer711
Today I went in a field and sparyed round up in about a 2 foot wide path from fence to fence running by my blind. I did this cause the grass is about 4 feet tall and I'm hoping it will make like a deer run for them. Was it a waste of time or was it worth it? whitetailfreak55
Deer will take the path of least resistance so if its the easiest path then yes it was worth it
waterfowler
I dont think its a waste because ive always been told that deer are farely lazy so they will take the easiest path they can
redkneck
You never know till you give it a shot. I've heard of folks making trails for them but never tried myself. My thinking is if the deer wants to go from A to B then there is probably a trail there already. They do surely use man made trails though no doubt. Good luck. wtnhunt
Dunno, deer like to move along edges, sometimes tall grass is good cover along an edge and make deer seem to feel a little more secure, but if deer already move through and your trail is an easier trail for them to follow they may use it. If you have a trail camera, might set it up along the edge and see how well they use it or watch to see how heavy the useage is, how many tracks are being made. dbHunterNY
i wouldn't invest too much money into making trails for deer unless it also serves another purpose, but the others are right. Deer will use hiking and ATV trails if they aren't getting a ton of traffic. They will take the easier path. If you rake trails into your stands to get in quietly, you may discover deer start using some of those too.
Rhino
I've done it in thickets making paths & the deer sure used them. Some of my buddies have done the same thing and it's worked well for them too. It seems if a deer sees a dirth path they will use them. In a nutshell...yes it works sometimes but like so many things when it comes to hunting...not all the time.
