Turkeygirl
Wel lthis morning it got lighter way sooner than I wanted. Rather than spook the bird, I set up inside the woods below him on a trail leading to the lower field, near where I heard his hens roost. Needless to say he gobbled a couple times, not nearly as much as he'd been, was first to fly down right smack on top then his hens flew down - saw 3 of them glide down one after the other. He shut up, never saw him. I made a loop to where they had been crossing a big alfalfa field to go to a plowed field - they never showed up. I snuck back over to the ridge he has been roosting on consistently and this is where my plan came in. There's an old trail leading up the one side to the top - I kicked leaves and sticks away to make a somewhat more quiet trail for me up to the top, where I then found a fallen tree in front of a standing tree which makes for a nice natural blind. I cleared a path out to where I'm going to stick out a couple hens. Want to be as quiet as possible in the AM - this set-up I would guess would put me 75 yards or under to his roost. Now hopefully he roosts in the same area again tonight...I feel really good about this plan, just need him to do his part!

Turkeygirl
I was talking to the ECO a little bit when he came to dispatch the deer - he said it's been spotty - some places they are gobbling, some places they aren't. He said the first bird he heard gobble was this past Thursday and he got that one I guess. He thinks the activity is late this year. I think something is definitely funky with this season.
