Turkeygirl
LOL I may be ending my season this year again eating tag soup BUT my 'turkey season' just changed to a 24/7 time frame...just got 2 Blue Slate turkey poults today....My mom told me about someone on the way home today that had 2 turkey poults left. Well I said jump in the car, we are going back! Just some average country folk had a bunch of chicks, ducklings, and 2 turkey poults left. They are Blue Slate....wanted $15 for both, I got her to take $10 for both. They were peeping and starting to yelp on the drive back home, loud little things compared to our chicks! Gave them some food and water, I don't think they had much at the other place. They started eating up the food and purring....it's awesome, turkey sounds 24/7 now! lol Not 100% sure but I think I may have 1 male and 1 female...hope so anyway...they are going to be pets, no freezer for them! Will get some pics up of them. I can really practice my calls now!

OKstate
It would be nice to be able to practice calls with real birds to see the reactions during the off season! This work thing is getting in the way of my fun! haha
Adjam5
Farm Turkeys are lots of fun. Good Luck with them Ruth. I always thought Turkeys as pets would never work. But from my friend in Texas, who has Rios told me. All you have to do is give them food and shelter and they have no reason to fly anywhere. They did call in other wild hens to live with them. As you said...great way to tune up your calling.
Turkeygirl
Well they already seem to like people....If I'm not out with them, they are peeping then when I come back, they settle down and purr and such. They have a stuff cloth chicken in their pen they are huddled with, lol
Turkeygirl
OMG...both my poults today strutted...lol! No joke, they are still small enough to stand in my palm but their wing and tail featehrs are coming in. One this morning before I went to work strutted 3 times and then tonight when I got home, the other one did once...it's so freaking cute! Maybe they missed me,lol

dbHunterNY
we've raised ring necked pheasants a handful of times and that was fun so i'm sure raising turkeys is different and fun too.
