Well I leave in about a week for Idaho! Taking a buddy (his first time). Going to try to put the smackdown on another one - hopefully a color phase bear this year. Going to take the bow, but I'm not sure how many I'll be seeing. The snow has just melted enough to drive a truck back to our hunting area (TODAY)! This means there will not be time for my idaho resident contact to get an active bait set up. We're on our own as far as getting a bait set and hoping a big bruin finds it quick! Beter than last year though - the snow pack run till the last week of June so we cancelled te trip. Going to have 8 days of hunting to get it done. Come on gas prices -keep dropping! Will post pictures here later.

Good luck. The bears are out hot and heavy. I have been getting reports from the upper panhandle of some mosters getting killed. They started seeing them 3 weeks ago in the high areas so hopefully where you will be they will be out as well. I killed mine last weekend and there was still some snow around but the bears were out. All low feeding on the nice green grasses coming up. If you put your bait out the day you get there, spend the rest of that day low on the new growth and grass, you will find them.

2012 Idaho Bear Hunt

Thanks everyone! My hunting buddy Dwayne finally got his first bear last night! A black boar that had a Tate for bagels. LOL Now were 5 hours into the 33 hour drive home. What an adventure! Dwayne caught a trout - put it on a stringer near the bank. An osprey swoops down and steals his fish and stringer. Then on our way down the highway takin my bear to the taxi we come across a Harley rider face down in the middle of the road. A dead deer nearby. Since Dwayne and I are both RNs we offer assistance until EMS arrives. They call in a helicopter for him - fortunately his helmet saved his life. What an adventure! Oh - we were Between 5 and 6 thousand feet in the Bitterroot mountains.
