sureshot
been terrable up here this spring, I believe becouse we had such a bad winter 2 years ago they had the oppertunity in the deep snow to kill a ton of deer, I think some of the alfa males that are alive then are doing the majority of the killing, had 4 calls in the past month from guys who have never had a problem, one guy lost 4 calves in 5 days including a purebred 10 day old bull calf, he was not impressed, I hate to kill them this time of year but when a rancher who lets me have the run of his land all year asks I cannot say no, as I drove in the yard at daybreak 5 were a couple hundred yards off, I got 2, the wind started to get up after a couple stands and getting winded me and a buddy decided to do the spread apart, I called and he went 250 yards or so downwind to try and get them sneeking in, had a pair come in but was in thick brush and we never got a shot, I got him to call next stand I positioned myself about 300 yards un a ridge with draw coming up, not compleatly downwind but they should come up the draw I thought, within 5 minutes 3 coyotes were sitting on a hill 3/4 mile away,[it was a pack of 3 that took his bull clf, he watched as mother chased off one and 2 more would come in, went on for a few minutes till he got over there.] I watched him call and the coyotes never moved, I then decided it was time to tick them off so I let out a howl then waited they sat up alert, then I challanged them, this got them going big time, we challanged back and forth for about 10 miutes till they came on a charge in, first one shot at 10 yards second at 75 third at 250 up the pooper and he rolled and ran in the draw, first 2 were big males and pretty sure the third was also could not find him, was surprized to find 3 males runnign together but they must of hunted together the bad winter and after mating season and a spring with out many gophers or deer they decided to take calves, no more!! sad to kill 3 coyotes that would of brought me prob 150-200 bucks in dec but I know I made a rancher super happy and i have a place to hunt anytime I want!! Adjam5
I see you don't miss the opportunity to make 'em good coyotes. As you know...dogs are smart. Take a dog that has to eek its own living...you have one smart dog. Nice shooting and even better helping out a farmer.
