Cybertech_hound819
Heres a question for you all . How do you tell the diffrence between a male and female while bait hunting hound or stalking. Some times its easy to tell whos who but not always. Me I usualy run hounds so we just carry a pair of binos to see. But what little bait hunting we do we look for the wick. stevebeilgard
are you speaking of bears? if so, take a very careful look for cubs. no cubs, shoot. there is no other way to tell until you gut it, so it's legal to shoot any bear without cubs. (proper season of course). same with lions, and a few others.
elkoholic
Like Steve said, you can not be 100% sure until you roll it over to gut it. A couple of things to look for to help in making a decision on a bear is that the big boars usually have a much wider and flatter snout. Also, a comparison of front shoulder size/height to rump size can usually give a clue as the boars will have larger shoulders (not necessarily larger than the rump) in relation to rump size. Now, if you are talking mountain lion, the definite way of telling is the males have a black fur spot surrounding the opening to the penis sheath about 4 to 5 inches below the anus, which easiest to see when treed. Any other critter and I haven't a clue.
