dbHunterNY
Not sure how many of you have enough land and square bale any hay, but we are this weekend at my parent's farm. Yesterday we put in somewhere around 3000 bales. brother and dad where out running equipment and i was hauling full wagons back and unloading them in the barn with three graduating highschoolers. surprised i can lift my arms today. headed now to my parent's to finish a back field for round two. should be about 3 wagons or 350 more bales to put in the barn. each bale is about 40lbs so we use man power to unload and stack them in the barn. figured people who check out this room could appreciate this more. should be easier woodchuck hunting now. also last year we didn't have time to get to some of the more remote fields out back. deer didn't hit them as much because they were more overgrown and not tender and green. hopefully this year we'll get to the couple of them which will make scouting and hunting better. Not sure how many bails we did but I know it wasn't no where near that. That's some work right there.
Ravin R10 man
Rememeber that well...I baled alot of our second cutting, (small squares) when we were dairy farming. was helping a farmer friend of mine last week, he made tha big squares, we baled and raked an 80 acre field in 3 hours about 100 bales 1 big bales equals 40 small ones

wtnhunt
Went to round bales here, about killed me one summer putting up hay in the 100 degree heat. Think the most I put up in one day was a little over 200 bales and best as I can remember those were 55-60 lb square bales. That was driving the truck and loading them on the trailer in the field and then taking the trailer to the barn and putting them up by myself, pole barn gets pretty warm late in the afternoon as the hay gets closer to the roof. I don't bale my own anymore.
whitetailfreak55
Ya I helped my boss out Thursday. Put in a full day of work at the job then headed out to bail. Ended up putting up a thousand. I was tired that night
dbHunterNY
....best as I can remember those were 55-60 lb square bales... yea william now that i think about it 40lbs seems pretty light. your estimate is probably right. never have actually weighed one. Rememeber that well...I baled alot of our second cutting, (small squares) when we were dairy farming. was helping a farmer friend of mine last week, he made tha big squares, we baled and raked an 80 acre field in 3 hours about 100 bales 1 big bales equals 40 small ones yea 1st cutting goes over well with most of the horse people, because it's not as dusty and somtimes get colic, so we've been told. then dairy (goats or cows) like 2nd or 3rd, for higher protein content with more alfalfa. we bale it all though. problem with the big bales is that hay buyers often don't have the means to handle them. you'll see them used on the farms they're baled on to be more efficient, but that's about it.
