snapper
My wife's cousin said she read in a book that grapes are bad for dogs...is this true? She said there is something in grapes that could make them go blind over the years. Our dogs love grapes...but I don't want to give them to them if it could hurt them? dogdoc
Re: Question for Dogdoc Snapper--there have been a few reports that grapes and raisins have lead to blindness in dogs---they have also been blamed for acute kidney failure in dogs. Although I have never seen this in my practice i don't recommend giving grapes to dogs. todd
Gator
Re: Question for Dogdoc That's good to know, since we have occasionally given our dog grapes. Seems like he will eat ANYTHING we throw at him!!!

buckee
Re: Question for Dogdoc You might want to read this too. http://www.breakthechain.org/exclusives/doggrapes.html I have also heard that grape seed extract is actually good for pets. HarvDog
Re: Question for Dogdoc So...what causes a miniature daschund to go from 12 pounds to over 26 pounds once we gave him to my mother-in-law? Could it be all the rice-n-beans, chicken, cereal, etc.!?!?!

snapper
Re: Question for Dogdoc Thanks Doc and everyone...guess the best bet is to just give our dogs, dog food and dog treats and nothing else! Our dogs never get table scraps and very few things (treats) that are what I would consider "people" food. Ok...only other thing that we give as treats that I can think of that I thought was good for them is carrots? Are carrots ok?

lil hunter
Re: Question for Dogdoc We give our dog grapes occasionally. no more than a few per night, and thats only when i'm eatin 'em and feeling generous.lol. Will it hurt him to eat a few, or should we stop givin 'em to him all together? he likes to play with his food too, when we give him grapes, he rolls it around on the floor for a few mins before he eats it.lol. dogdoc
Re: Question for Dogdoc Camo---no your dog will be fine with no damage to the kidneys. The grapes/raisins have only caused acute kidney problems when the dog is fed a large amount of grapes or raisins.
snapper
Re: Question for Dogdoc Yeah...this was kinda a shock to hear. My Rotty and Lab used to sit under the grape vine at our old house and just eat away! My Rotty has enough eye probs. and really don't need kidney troubles with either dog. Thanks again!
