Beware...scammers galore

There seems to be all sorts of scams popping up these days. Recently I've gotten automated phone calls & even text saying my debit card card was cancelled & I needed to reactivate it giving out my account number, etc. or in the case of text call a phone no. to reactivate it. Beware & don't fall for these scams.

Now they are even going further by sending out hunting magazine renewal letters. I got one today for my Deer & Deer Hunting magazine. I noticed the amount for a 1 year subscription was unusually high so I went to the magazine's web site and found it in fact was a scam. Matter of fact in a customer service notice, they showed there were 33 different entities ID'd that were sending out renewal notices that were not authorized to sell their subscriptions.

So...be careful out there. The thieves are everywhere!

If you don't watch out criminals will fleece you. Protect your info and shred your mail and papers with important info on them.

A popular scam is a call to old folks...saying... "Grandma...im in jail...I had a car accident and need you to wire money to get me out of jail." My Mom got a call like this, and was astute enough at 86; to realize my son Joe would never call her and ask for money.

Wolves on every corner.

There isn't a minute that goes by without somebody trying to hit someone over the head. It is not just the robo calls for better credit or the jailhouse thug pretending to be from the PBA looking for a "donation." A clerk at the local mall or a waitress at a familiar restaurant can fleece you pretty quick, as well. Never let go of your credit card and always count your change. I went to a local Walmart one night with a twenty dollar bill. I bought $6+ worth of batteries. I got home and only had 3 dollars and some change. Realizing that the girl at the checkout was unusually friendlier than normal had me go back and have a manager count her drawer.

This girl was $138 over and I got my ten bucks back. The guilt was all over her face as the manager questioned her to how her cash drawer was over that much. This girl was a long time employee. It is funny how she takes her time and counts out the change to the penny every time I'm in her line. The $10 doesn't sound like much, but this person has worked in that store since it was built how many years ago. I haven't seen her since they built the new store. Maybe she gave herself a little too much rope. I can only imagine how many dollars, one customer at a time, was fleeced over the years.

Then there are the government run scams that we deal with every day, but that is for another thread!
