Missouri Project

Since Pat shared his Kansas hunting project with y'all, here's mine. We are primarily both hardcore bowhunters but we may have to do some limited gun hunting to thin out does if needed. This will be an ongoing project for the coming years. This past fall & winter my buddy bought 2 tracts of land in Missouri that total ~885 ac. They join together across about a 1/4 mile area but here's 2 pics of aerial photos of his place.

This 1st pic is the northwestern part. I've drawn in the damn and perimeter of the lake. They finished the damn for the lake a little over a week ago. I've also drawn where his camp...well house and barn will be just south of the lake. They broke ground for it a little over a week ago. The stands we've hung for bowhunting so far are shown as blue stars. The blue circles are spots where we know the next 3 stands are going. The white dots are mineral licks we made before spring turkey season. I have a list of other potential stand spots but we still have a lot of scouting to do. They just finished thinning the timber in the southwestern portion, which was all big timber. We won't do anyore timber thinning this year.

Here's the southeastern part including where it joins with the northwestern part. I've drawn in a swath of a cleared area his farmer made to get his equipment through from the NW area. It was supposed to be 50' wide but he got carried away. Needless to say, we weren't happy about it. We have to do some cleanup there thanks to trees he pushed to the sides before we decide how to hunt that line of timber.

All the tillable acreage is planted in corn (~350 ac.) Most of the CRP goes out next year. When it does we'll have it turned into tillable too.

Here's a couple of pics of the lake area and the beginning of his camp. The barn will be completed 1st and the camp is supposed to be completed before Nov. 1st. Can't wait to enjoy this place this fall!

When the camp is finished, this is what it will look like on the back side...on the upper level anyway. This pic doesn't show the plan having a basement, which we will have. Also, the deck will go across the entire back side of the camp with the right area being covered for outdoor cooking.

Missouri Project

Googooo gaaagaaaa......wow is all I can say! If that area has genetics some GIANTS will fall there! 800 acres WILL literally hold mature deer and they never have to leave. The possibilities are endless there. Keeping a few acres of crp could really do wonders though. I see a large quantity reconyx order coming!!!

Gee...how could you tell? :clown: Right now I have 3 & he has 3 but only 4 are in the woods in MO. Yep...I'm getting 2 or 3 more & my buddy says he's getting 10 more. Great talking to ya too Pat.

heck of a spot.... looks huntable. like pat said 800+ acres if hunted right could help save some bucks with potential. how are the neighbors? that farmer sounds a lot like what my Dad does when he makes a field access, only he owns it. That "camp" lol! sounds like it'll be pretty nice too.

how are the neighbors?

From what we know so far, they appear to be OK. We already knew about one that was a friend of a close friend of mine up there. It helps that the property is on a dead end road. Several neighbors are very protective when it comes to trespassers. I'm fine with that. Met one while painting lines purple last November and she 1st accused us of trespassing. When we told her we had just closed on buying the property and explained to her what we were doing, her attitude changed a lot. Had a nice chat with her for about 30 minutes. Had supper with another one last fall...seemed like a nice guy. My buddy's talked to most of the other neighbors on the phone. The one's we've talked to claim they are selective with the bucks they'll take. We'll see this year.

That's going to be some place Al. I'm still waiting to get hit by a drunk FedEx driver or something so I can afford something like that lol.

Seriously I know you two will enjoy that property to the fullest and I know you will make every effort to help develop it to the fullest. I wish you both the best with it! I know you'll have lots more pics to come..... good luck!

I think everyone is just too busy drooling over this to post!

Yep, for sure drool here, my keyboard is shorting out! Looking forward to the pictures you get off this place Al.

What can I say. Nice to have a best friend that's like a brother to me that needs to invest some of his money conservatively. BTW...letter of intent is on the way now to pick up another ~426 bordering the SW side of his place. It's mostly farmland though (~60%). The rest is about 1/2 & 1/2 timber & CRP.

Dang...reminds me...gotta order another Reconyx Hyperfire & get it in before the end of next week when we head back up there.
