WStreblo
With it having been a very dry spring and summer here in the buckeye state I wonder what food sources the deer would be moving to. Any ideas?

WStreblo
I will be out bow hunting north Missouri end of October this year hope it's been a decent spring and summer there
Tominator
Around me they will just be doing more damage to the farmers, I don't think they will be shifting their range based on food. There's plenty of food for them. They may shift range based on water though. Most of the creeks are dried up already. The crops are way behind though. I've seen fields of beans that have basically been the same height for weeks for lack of rain. I've only seen 1 field of corn with tassles so far. jesse8953
I hunt a woods with a pond.I went out today, the pond is low but looks like a stampeed of tracks there.I put a trail cam there.Just to see how much activity there is.The woods never holds very many deer.they walk through the woods to get to the other woods around because you can't hunt the others around. If this drought keeps up I'll be hunting the pond this year! I killed a doe last year there maybe I'll get a buck there this year.
arrow32
We went out kayaking on the Ohio the other day and we saw a ton of deer down by the river drinking more than I'm use to seeing. Must be due to how dry it is around here. Saw one decent buck down by the river then a few small ones. With as hot as its been and lack of rain water sources this fall I think are going to be a great spot to hunt. But we will see.
dbHunterNY
i'd think they aren't going to change much if there's still a water source nearby. probably hit forbs and soft mast pretty hard where they can find it. if the lack of rain keeps up water sources will be hot spots, but time will tell. WStreblo
2012 Ohio deer season outlook I agree I think the best areas to hunt as of right now will be the places where a steady water supply can be found. Any input as to what this weather will do to say the acorn output? We had a wet spring last year and I sat on an oak flat many times in late October and November and seen small acorns still in the tree. swohiodave
I plan hunting near the creek as i always do. The deer think they are being sneaky walking in it.

hoosierhunter
2012 Ohio deer season outlook I don't know about OH but here in IN we were hammered b drought and it has not affected the deer. In fact the mild winter caused some serious horn to be added and the deer are probably a good 5-10% larger than normal years.
WStreblo
2012 Ohio deer season outlook That sounds pretty good for you guys in the Hoosier State, I have seen some younger bucks sporting larger than normal head gear this year but never thought to put the warm winter as its cause. I just figured it was due to nobody around here mashing a monster last year.
mkh
Deer have been staying in the same area around here. They are looking pretty rough but hopefully that storm we just had will get everything growing quickly.
