m gardner Posted July 4, 2012 Report Share Posted July 4, 2012 (edited) Lately the number of wildfires attributed to gunowners target practicing on federal lands has grown amazingly since 2006. Only one I know of was started by some idiot at a bachelor party (alcohol should have been the cause not the instrument used) and he will get a fine and/or jail time. This looks like a growing trend and restrictions to target shooting have already been issued in Utah. Could be a back door assault on our rights. Being a biker I see tons of people throwing cigarettes out the windows of cars (it's eay to spot at night when it comes bouncing by you) so maybe we should go to smokeless tobacco only as a safety precaution too. redkneck Posted July 5, 2012 Report Share Posted July 5, 2012 All I'm saying is in these times when fire fighting resources are being used beyond capacity, any risk control is good measure. People are losing their lives due to wildfires. Nobody said you couldn't hunt on federal lands, nobody is saying you can't target practice. I don't like my rights taken away either but when the county issues a burn ban I understand why I can't shoot fireworks even on my own property. m gardner Posted July 5, 2012 Author Report Share Posted July 5, 2012 The thing that is curious is how they blamed over 30 (closer to 40 according to this article) fires now on shooting with proof that two were actually caused by shooting. Last year we had several bad fires on our border with Mexico and video surveillence showed they were started by illegals, but they got such backlash that they backed away from the statement. Shooters are beat up with scant proof. Leo Posted July 10, 2012 Report Share Posted July 10, 2012 It's incredibly difficult to start a fire with a modern firearm shooting smokeless powder. I challenge anyone to try and do it on purpose. wtnhunt Posted July 10, 2012 Report Share Posted July 10, 2012 Kinda with Leo here, dunno that I believe a fire could be so easily started with a modern firearm, unless you have the barrel blasting muzzle flash directly to the ground in front of you.
