hoosierhunter
Even though I just put out cameras, I do know that our after season surveys showed 10 bucks that were at least 3.5 year olds still alive in January. My lone glassing trip on June 14th showed 5 bucks that all will finish over 130. Two of those are already very special deer to say the least. One is a bruiser non-typical with a gnarly drop and the other is a full framed 10 and that was already a month ago! Whew I'm getting light headed just thinking about them..... I do a great deal of driving in my job and I've been really suprised about the headgear this year. The mild winter really seemed to benefit the herd from what I can tell. Although it's really dry this summer, it doesn't seem to be affecting antler production thus far. Now if we can just avoid those nasty EHD problems and 2012 could be a banner year for big deer. wtnhunt
Not looking good here at all, have yet to have seen or gotten ay pics of one I would call a shooter. Figure with the extreme drought we have had this spring/summer we will have a pretty significant ehd die off. Food sources may not be so great either, that may contribute to lesser antler growth for the season and may also make for some competition for food this year when seasons come around. Strut10
Don't know how it's looking here. Have had a pair of cameras out for a month but not had time to go pull cards. I did have a short phone conversation with my buddy (and chief scouting agent) yesterday. He said he's see a pair of giants on a nearby property and have some good bucks on trailcam cards he wants to bring by the house. But, as yet, I do not have a hit list this year. Tominator
Been seeing tons of little 1 year olds. Nothing to get my heart going yet. Too hot for me to go out and glass any fields.
dbHunterNY
yea haven't seen or scouted much. haven't seen or heard word of anything too big. don't pay too much attention to bucks hanging around until September when they relocate if they're going to. hoosierhunter
How is your hitlist looking for 2012? NY remember a deer that summers and winters on your ground will return periodically during the fall even if he relocates a few miles away for the fall. rhine16
How is your hitlist looking for 2012? Checked two cams today for the first time and found a bunch of bucks hitting the salt licks over the last two weeks. Nothing jumped out at me, though I was just viewing the pics on a digital camera. I'll get more serious about it in the next few weeks, and get a few more cams out. Usually have a couple decent bucks on the hitlist by October, but the real one gets made in October and November with the cameras over scrapes. Rhino
No updates on bone growth yet this year. As far as MS goes...there are a few survivors that I'll be looking for. One was a mature 4x4 last year that would have been in trouble if I'd got a crack at him. Got pics of him after the season closed while scouting for spring turkey season with the cams so I know he's out there. Another one down here was a 3.5 year old buck last year with 10 scorable points...2 were NT points. He had exceptional brow tine length too. Saw him a lot, especially during bow season. Fortunately, he was aggressive enough to bust up his rack last year so everyone that saw him passed him. Will have to review last year's MS survivors but those are the 2 most on my mind down here. Got more than a few on my mind in MO since we just ran a couple Reconyx cams through the season but didn't hunt the place. Several 3.5 year old 5x5 bucks that should put on more bone this year. Several mature bucks too. As you know, have cams running up there now to start this years hit list. Should be back up there in a couple of weeks to check the cams & put out a few more. Casey
Well since Indiana has been the Sahara desert, I have decided to stay indoors. But I did manage to put out a new camera. I put down a mineral powder that I have had great success with. Rack up by Evolved Habitat. A lot of deer the last few years have tore into our mineral sites after going to this product. With the rain we got today I am sure that the minerals was soaked into the ground. Getting all the pieces together... Ethan Givan
Just got three cameras out right now behind the house, and they have only been out for a couple weeks. I dont expect much back there, usually only get young bucks and does. Sometimes I get suprised by a nice deer that I catch passing through in November, but I usually get a pic or two and they disappear. I havent put cameras out at the other farm yet, but hopefully will get a few out there next weekend. That farm is where I have gotten pics of nice deer since I started hunting it in 2010. I have gotten pics of 2 or 3 quality mature bucks both years and I only know of one being taken. There were also some great looking 2.5-3.5 yr olds the last two years that should be great deer this year or next. Im confident that I will find a couple shooters there before September.
