Guest TheDeerHunter
I bought a new Remington 870 Super Mag Synthetic. Well it didn't come with the magazine cap stud or the swivel stud in the rear stock. I want to be able to put a sling on my gun. So I bought the Universal Magazine cap with the rear swivel stud. I was woundering can I install the rear swivel stud on my own or should I take it to a gun smith? I don't want to scratch my stock all up and I don't want to crack the stock either. Thanks
KYLimbHanger
Re: Question about Remington 870 The synthetic stock is hollow. But, there is a ridge of molded plastic that runs the whole way down the stock. Hard to explain, but you will see once you take the buttplate off. I have the same exact gun and drilled the stock myself. I chose a drill bit that was the same diameter as the screw (minus the threads). I had another 870 so I looked at it to decide where to place the stud. I also used a punch tool for a good start on the drill bit. Mark your drill bit with masking tape to the depth you want to drill. Make sure you line up with the stock and take is slow. A sharp bit will eat up the sythetic material. Good Luck. Hope this helps. buffett1
Re: Question about Remington 870 Take it to the gunsmith. Like they already said. It's not worth screwing it up yourself to save a few bucks.
Guest TheDeerHunter
Re: Question about Remington 870 Me and my dad worked on my gun tonight. We drilled it and installed the swivel stud with no problem. It looks good and I'm in business now! I can't wait for turkey season!

KYLimbHanger
Re: Question about Remington 870 Quick, easy, and you didn't have to take a trip to gunsmith and pay him to do it. Good job!
