First Coyote Hunt of 2012

Recommended Posts

Well I have a friend who has never been huntin so I figured why wait till bird season. We live in NV so coyotes are aplenty. Luckily i live on a ranch so we headed out over the mountain just before dusk.

We did scent lock down as it does help here and brought a 308 yes i know is overkill but as i said he was a first time hunter and i wanted to be sure it went down with any shot takken.

about an hour in of using a locator and cottontail call we watched one rocket in within 50 yards .... perfect shot i thought. so we got it to stop and took the shot......

swing and a miss.... no way could u miss with a 16x scope at 50 yards rite? come to find out the next day at the range the scope was slightly loose causing it to shoot low and left.

i just posted this as a reminder. we all get caught up in the excitment of going huntin and often forget to check our gear. be sure ya hit the range and check scope mounts before fillin a tag so you dont end up like us this year. thankfully it was just a yote....

happy huntin
