4NRARU
Can anyone reccomend a good black powder scope to go on a cheep CVA i just picked up - id prefer not to spend more than 100 on it as the gun wasnt more than 125. I know you get what you pay for when it comes to optics, however this will just be used for target practice as hunting large game here in NV is illegal with Scoped Black Powder. Any links to a decent one would be appriciated. Im about to go buy a Cheep one from walmart for 60 bucks.
wtnhunt
Regular rifle scope will do the job, get the best one you can afford. Personally pretty well all the scopes I buy anymore are nikon, put a prostaff on our cva accura. Had a +/-$70 bushnell sportsman 3-9x40 from wal mart on our black diamond for several years and the scope held up great until I dropped it and bent the eyepiece. dbHunterNY
every now and then a Cabelas powderhorn will go on sale for around $100. they're a little more, but both the Nikon Omega and Leupold Ultimate Slam i've used and would recommend. like william said a good rifle scope will work too. just learn how much you need to hold over, most don't shoot too far with a ML anyway. dbHunterNY
oh yea.... the buck in the picture by my name i shot with a Nikon Omega topped TC Prohunter muzzleloader. it holds its zero well enough to maintain sub-MOA accuracy.
4NRARU
Right on Db, i just looked up the Powder horn, looks nice and its a 10x. its on sale right now for 120 at cab. so i may end up getting it. i dont want anything too nice as this is more of a truck gun that rides with me for yotes here in NV. I never really hunt large game with it. (or my older ones for that matter) I appriciate the help as im new to Muzzle and didnt know they made scopes specifically for them. They put the powderhorn scope on often for $69, got a new catalog here the other day, there may be a sale on them now. I have not tried the cabelas powderhorn scope myself, you may want to read the reviews on them, seems to be some pretty widely varied or mixed reviews on some of the powderhorn scopes. Eye relief and a graduated reticle are about the only differences in most of the "muzzleloader" scopes and a decent rifle scope. To be honest imo, a graduated reticle scope is not needed unless you plan to extend out beyond 175 yards, you can get a pretty flat shooting load with modern muzzleloaders. dbHunterNY
4NRARU- yea when you said black powder scope i thought you were being specific to ones designed around muzzleloaders. i agree with everything said above. all you really need in my opinion is the 10x for a muzzleloader scope to get you out just past 200 yards. takes a lot of stuff going right to shoot that far and farther with a muzzleloader. the reticle will help you more for when you're not shooting a maximum powder charge and your bullet drop is more at a given yardage. i like my scope with the reticle takes guess work out of thing and helps you aim more precise. good luck shopping! wtnhunt
Guess I will be able to give a review on this scope myself in the future. At the current $49.99 price, I just burned some points and used the free shipping promo and got a scope on the way, no money out of pocket. dbHunterNY
it's a good scope at least the 10x i picked up... i mean there might be some lemons out there, but Cabela's is good with fixing that sort of thing. everything i've got has optics on it already. yea i've got that much to burn, so i would get it if i needed one. fly
Bought my son a traditions ML for about 100.00. Put a Cabelas Alpha series scope on it. Sale price was about 125.00 but i see now it's 150. It's a reliable scope but if you want something under 100 bucks I'd look into the Powderhorn series. On sale now for 50-75 bucks at Cabelas.
