Ultradog
Hunting licenses are now available too. I kind of look forward to that every year as it's an indicator that deer season isn't too far away. No major changes in the regs as it pertains to deer. Usually we'd buy our licenses early and apply for the doe lottery by Sept 8th or so. But it's Hunter's Choice again this year so no need to buy a license early. Choice means we're pretty much assured of putting some venison in the freezer. Under 100 days till the opener now. Bring it on!
wtnhunt
You usually have to put in to a lottery in MN to draw doe tags? Guess with that in mind I can kinda see where your thoughts that every hunter needs to kill at least one deer would come into play for your state. Our new handbook is online, see minor changes for us. Still giving us liberal doe limits meaning once season opens the 4th Saturday in Sept that we will still be allowed 3 does per day for the duration of the season. Ultradog
Yeah, I hunt in central Minn. This is the second year ever that it was hunters choice for us. We always had to do the lottery thing to get a doe tag. Never been bonus tags there. Many a year a guy went all season and never saw a legal buck so a doe tag made the difference between some venison in the freezer and tag soup. I shouldn't complain as i could go find some state land in Southern MN where deer are more plentiful. But it's tough to go off on a wild goose chase and leave my own little piece of land. It has been generally productive for my buddy Mike and I. Stats say only about 37% of the licenses in MN are filled each year. For the last 15 years or so we are batting something closer to twice that figure. But that does include taking a doe when we could. Or even on that last day of the season, as the daylight wanes, being glad as heck to see a fawn walk out of nowhere and well, now you've got a taste of venison anyway.
