duder01
First post here, I'm looking at buying a 7mm mag before the fall comes around I'm not loyal to any brands which makes choosing a gun kinda hard so many options. Just looking for any suggestions as to brand and model, pros and cons. not looking to spend a fortune but don't want to cheap out either as I plan to keep this gun for along time and for it to be my main high power. I was thinking a top end price range to be around 1000 w scope but that could always go higher if necessary lol. Any tips would be appreciated thanks
wtnhunt
Welcome to the forums. Really boils down to your personal preference. My first choice would probably be a model 700, would have enough $ leftover to top it with a nikon monarch.
duder01
7mm mag to buy I have looked at them along with alot of others and nothing exactly stands out at me which is where the problem is lol having no exact "personal preference" makes the decision harder than it has to be just figured if try a forum out c what everyone has to say
whitetailfreak55
I agree with the model 700. And welcome to the forums
dbHunterNY
remington 700 sps dm... Centerfire Rifle - Model 700 SPS DM - Remington Centerfire Rifles savage 111 fc ns... Savage Arms weatherby vangard series 2.... Cabela's: Weatherby® Vanguard® Series 2 Rifle browning abolt II stalker.... tikka t3 lite.... somethings to consider... there's lots of aftermarket add on stuff for the Remington 700 which is nice. some of the others guarantee 1 moa. some of the others have a 60 degree or short throw bolt which is ridiculously fast for follow ups if needed. all these are in the $450-600 price range so you'll be at about $1K with a decent scope. if you want to spend more i'd move up to stainless barreled action first. they've all got your standard synthetic stock with a clip and blued barrel/action. redkneck
I think your going backwards, find a rifle you like then pick a caliber. You may find a shorter action WSM to your liking. Pick an action then find your caliber. Just an opinion Welcome to the forums!

Strut10
Were I to go shopping for a general purpose sporter today.............in whatever caliber............I would be looking at the Weatherby Vanguard and the Winchester Model 70. Rhino
Another vote here for the Weatherby Vanguard...guaranteed sub moa. However...this is your weapon. I highly suggest you go and handle everyone of these weapons mentioned. That way you can decide what feels best for you. What feels best to you may not to me. Welcoome Aboard. i'm your huckleberry
Another vote for Weatherby vanguard. My advice to you stay away for those mule kick tikkas, why, brother-inlaw owns one he had to put a wimp break on it, imho, breaks are for 338 and bigger, besides i don't think you want to wear ear plugs or muffs when hunting Edited August 28, 2012 by i'm your huckleberry
toddyboman
However...this is your weapon. I highly suggest you go and handle everyone of these weapons mentioned. That way you can decide what feels best for you. What feels best to you may not to me. Welcoome Aboard. I own a gun business (Shoemate's Arms LLC - Firearms, Ammo, Reloading and Outdoor Supplies) and I cannot agree more with the statement above. On more than one occasion I can think of someone showing up to buy XYZ gun, then they handle it and change their mind. All his person's buddies suggested this gun but the person that was buying didn't like the feel. SO go handle all of them and see which one YOU like. Good luck!
