Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Every year we have take a week long trip to the upper peninsula for the opener of gun season. That is pretty much the only time we get up there...usually. This year I think we are going to be taking a trip up 3-4 weeks before to bow hunt and just leave some stuff like stands up there (in the house) to lighten our load when we head back up. My question is this. I want to leave my blind up for that month or so in between trips. BUT, I really don't want to leave my good blind up (Ameristep Intimidator), so I was thinking of putting my 12 year old doghouse blind up in that spot while I am gone and just switching them out when I get back up. Any thoughts? I know the sizes and shapes are different, but I am thinking/hoping that just having SOMETHING there will help. Like I said, we never go up there before (It is a 7-8 hour drive one way) so my blind is usually set up only a day or two before the season starts. I never have trouble seeing deer, but I would like to try this to see if movement will improve doing this.
Rhino
I can certainly see having something for them to get used to would be beneficial. The only issues would be if someone helps themselves to it by either stealing it or by hunting it too much while you're gone. If other hunters sharing the same property hunt it your concern now is them educating the deer going through there by either hunting it too much, with the wrong wind, or getting busted in it including getting in & out of it. Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Yeah, theft is really my only concern which is why I don't want to leave my intimidator blind up there. I can handle losing a 12 year old blind that cost maybe $100 back then. I plan on dropping some bait down as well and maybe leaving a trail camera up. I will probably hide that pretty good and try and point it so that the blind is in the picture as well.
ApexPredator
Switching out ground blinds? I'd try to brush it in pretty well and when you do the swap try to maintain the same look/scheme as the original setup. Should be ok as long as they are used to a "something" being there. Try not to bring new scents with the new blind obviously.
loner
unless, you are worried about theft,i leave mine out for years.the zippers get in bad shape from weather where you get in and out but until not operable, i don't change blinds. Flintlock1776
I have put up a blind in the mooring and got a buck out of it that afternoon. As long as you blind is scent free I found deer do not get spooked by a blind.
