onlyprettier22
I am wanting to sit in the stands a few nights this week to scout since it is supposed to be a bit cooler. Hoping to see some movement on a buck that's caught our eye on the camera. Anyone else out scouting lately? Any advice or experiences that could help us out? Rhino
To each his own but I NEVER sit in any of my stands until I'm hunting. Many old experienced hunters say your odds are best the 1st time you hunt a stand. Heck...I am one of those old farts! I will find ways to view places at ground level, usually from a distance where I can sneak in & out without being detected.
hoosierhunter
scouting I completely agree with Al. No good comes from being in a stand right now. Patients grasshopper........
arrow32
Gotta agree here. I never sit in stand after hanging it until I hunt it for the first time. Like Rhino said will view from a distance from time to time
hoosierhunter
Any advice or experiences that could help us out? Spotting scope from the truck window. I just pull into my access drives and turn the truck off and wait. Mature deer are so tough to hunt that it isn't worth the risk to spook them. You already have trail cameras pictures so seeing him in person now only matters when a weapon is in hand.
Ravin R10 man
Yup great advise..keep your distance...further away is better right now, it's tough to hold out but it will pay off when you can actually get in and ambush one on his late summer feeding pattern
Dawg
I never sit in a stand this time of year either.......because it's so HOT. It'd be like sitting in an oven. Use your trail cams for scouting or like Rhino said, scout from a distance if possible.

onlyprettier22
scouting I'm just too excited! I guess you're right, I'll steer clear and scout from a distance. Our camera hasn't been gettin' too much action and I want to see what's there for myself! Lol. Thanks everyone!
Jeramie
Way too hot to scout around here right now. I typically scout in October with a bow in hand... FYI.... Im moving this to the deer hunting lounge.
OKstate
Its been to hot around here to be out during the day, much less sitting in a tree! Even the deer quit moving!
onlyprettier22
scouting This week has been in the 80's and low 90's and has been a gift from above! Hope everyone else gets a break from the heat as well!
elkoholic
If sitting in a stand is a doable, with the heat and bugs, then a long range observation stand is the only way to go. This is also a good idea during the season if the wind is not right for the stand/area you want to hunt, but you still get the chance to observe movement without the risk of alerting the deer to your presence, and you might still get a shot opportunity from an observation stand.
