ckrich
Tomorrow afternoon I leave for a week in western Montana with 5 good friends! Two trucks with two drift boats in tow will leave northeastern Oklahoma on a non-stop express route to Missoula. It should take us around 25 hours. We plan on fishing new water every day, with a relocation midway thru the week to Craig so we can fish the Missouri. This will be my first vacation in 4 years that I didn't just stay close to home. Besides the fishing, the thing I am looking most forward to is the cooler temps! Highs around 77-85 are so much better than the 100+ temps we are having here, and a low of 50 at night will flat out ruin me. Anybody have any suggestions for "must do" attractions in the Missoula and Craig areas?

Tony
If you want to, go further north and check out Glacier national park near kalispell. Its a great place to spend the day. Also you won't be very far from Yellowstone which is a classic place to visit.
Shaun_300
Sounds like fun, have a great time! That's one of the three places we are debating on going on vacation next spring. If we decide not to go to Tennessee or Myrtle Beach again we'll head out to Montana.

92xj
Missoula is a fun town. Must do's....any bar. College town, lots of fun. Glacier is awesome, perfect time of year to visit, easy drive North. There is an early elk season open right now in Idaho. Not sure which units, but any unit holds elk. OTC tags, I believe. Something to look at if you have time. I'm 4-5 hours west of you. If you have an emergency or need anything, let me know. I will do what I can to help. ckrich
I would love to visit Glacier, hopefully we get the chance. Elk hunting in Idaho would be a blast, but fishing is the main course this trip. Hopefully we will swing through Yellowstone on the way back. Thanks for the offer, Ben. I'll hollar if we get in a bind we can't get ourselves out of. I'm going to be completely worthless at work today...
wtnhunt
Sounds like a fun trip. Think we have a member or two in the Missoula area. Have fun and have a safe trip.
ckrich
We are about two hours from Missoula. Been taking shifts driving since 745 last night, only stopping for gas and one real meal. Had a short meeting with some Kansas cops due to faulty trailer wiring. Other than that the drive has been amazing. Montana is more beautiful than I could have imagined!
elkoholic
Check out the RMEF on North Reserve street. The B&C office is also in Missoula. If you make it to GNP, fishing in one of the three forks of the Flathead River can be a blast. I would do the north fork if it were me. You could make a circular trip going up highway 93 and highway 2 to Glacier and return via Hwy 2, 206, 35, 83 and 200. No matter, there is way too much to see, just enjoy your vacation. Which river are you fishing, The Clark Fork, Bitterroot, or Blackfoot?
ckrich
We fished the Noth Fork of the Blackfoot, floated Jones Route to Waystation on the Blackfoot, Rock Creek, Clark Fork, hiked in to fish a mountain lake(Flintrock Lake?), and did a short float on the Missouri today. We didn't spend much time in Missoula except to fuel up and hit the fly shop. Now we're south bound headed home, this week went by way too fast

ckrich
That was a fast trip! Drive safe man... We got back in the wee hours of Sunday morning, safe and sound. The trip did go by way too fast. It seemed like all we did was drive or fish, or drive to fish. I'm already thinking of going back to see more of the sights. After seeing all of my pictures, my girlfriend stated plainly that we would be taking a vacation there soon. Lol

Stayed in Teton, Wyoming and drove through Teton National Park to get to Yellowstone. Most beautiful country I have EVER been in. Love to live around there someday! Hope you had on your vacation!
