I dont think you were asking a baiting question, but apples will work well if legal

However;

If your looking to feed during winter in the off season, get a couple good 2nd or third cut round bales to carry them..hay is hard to find with the drought too in some spots...but will go alot farther than corn, and you need to have them out early especially if you have forestdeer that only browse in the winter

Well it is legal to bait here in south ga but I was meaning something I could put in feeders or troughs. Especially in spring when they are growing horns. This year is the first year we had enough rain to grow a plot in a couple years. But itheygets eaten as soon as they pop up.

i'l be hunting what acorns fall this year first, than corn, rice bran and roasted soybeans, the trick is to get it while you can afford it and ton of bulk corn is going for 380.00 a ton, and will fill up 6 55 gal drums. rice bran and roasted soybeans run 9.75 a bag, its never been cheap to feed deer that ive found ive seen the price double last year on corn alone so my plain is spead what i have now out over the year.

There is no way I would buy corn to feed deer this year. Apples would be my choice if you have access to some trees to get them from.

I have fed corn to deer in past years, mainly for trail cameras, but I was lucky enough to get it free from the farmer I hunt on. He would let us fill up about 15 feed bags of corn while he was bringing it in with the grain wagons. Not gonna happen this year I dont think.
