1st MO Run

Rhino

We had 4 cameras running during this 1st round. We set them on June 25 and Aug. 8th was our 1st chance to check them. 3 out of the 4 got some interesting buck pics. One of those 3 was on a mineral lick & the dang card was full after 17 days of running with over 6,400 pics. The others were on trails. Out of the 3 cams though, one buck for sure will be on the hit list...the others probably will all get a pass. Here's the best bucks from the pull but I cropped them from the originals.

I have ~20 pics of this 4x4. With his tine length & one extra long brow tine, he's on the hit list for 4x4's

I've looked hard comparing this buck to the 1st one and I'm pretty sure they are 2 different bucks. This was his only pass. Need a better look at him.

This guy passed through once...too quick. Looks like he bumped into something on the run.

I hate these next 2 bucks passed through in late June and didn't come by again...yet. I don't think either one will make our self imposed cut for 5x5's though.

Young buck with great potential here.

Hope this 5x5 makes it to next year.

2 more youngsters with good potential.

We have 9 cams running now so I hope we add more to the hit list on the next pass.

Al-interesting pull. What size card did you use that filled up? I'm a little worried about our kansas cameras as we used 8gb cards running since 6/10 and we don't pull until 9/24! Our settings are 3 pics per minute.

The bumper buck looks young, but one pic is so decieving.

Those two deer in the 4th pic have some mature characteristics to them as well as the buck below them. Just as a point of reference, that 10 is the same size at that time as the buck I emailed you and you know where we pegged him at!

That last eight appears to have some big boy genes in him for sure!

The little non-typical could be very special if you can give him another 2-3 years.

The 5x5 you want to make it to next year is darn near 130 inches in June! I'd take a bet that he's going to push 150 if not top it this year. For your sake, I hope he doesn't present a decision.

I hope you're right rhine...I tend to be conservative with velvet bucks, especially with limited knowledge of the timing of antler growth in the midwest.

No need for you to worry with 8 gb cards in KS Pat...except for the potential number of pics you'll have to review. We used 2 gb cards and as you could see that 2 gb card that filed up in 17 days was on a mineral lick getting plenty of activity...mostly does though. We had that cam set on the pre-programed Feeder setting. The other 3 cams were set on trails with no feed whatsoever...just natural movement. The ones on trails were getting between 1,000 & 1,400 pics over that time frame using the Trail pre-programed setting so nothing would get past them.

Yea he passed through quick & 2 out of the 3 pic blast got him. The 1st was more fuzzy than the one I posted. No good body shot of him at all.

Didn't realize that...sure makes me feel better about his chances for adding more bone. Thanks!

Yea he might grow 150" of bone but he was a regular at that mineral lick. I have over 400 pics of him and I'm pretty sure he's 3.5. If he grows 150", he'll be in trouble if he walks by my buddy who bought the land. Hopefully we'll catch him again when he's in hard horn & agree to put him on the protected list. My buddy's main business contact with his biggest client will make one hunt with us and we'll be lax on his size limits since he's never killed a buck over 120". His business contact will only be able to kill one buck though. Bottom line is, if not for that client, my buddy would never have made the $ to buy that property.

It was nice to catch young bucks with great potential and I expect to get more of them. Fires us up knowing what we have the potential to grow with a little time. Also helps knowing we have at least a couple of neighbors that also want to grow mature bucks allowing them a chance to maximize their potential.
