Scbasshunter
Does anybody have any last minute advice for a new bowhunter looking to get his first deer with a bow? I have had my blind out for 2 weeks. All of my clothes are washed and stored in a Scent A Way bag with a couple of wafers. My bow is sighted in and I have new razor sharp Muzzys. Scbasshunter
I actually have one question about wind. Would you hunt a stand if the wind is going to be good up until the last 30 minutes or so of light? I figure the deer probably aren't going to be coming out until 7 since it will be in the low 90s most of the day, but the wind is supposed to change around 7:30ish. I'm afraid if I hang my stand to play the wind for what it's going to be the last hour of light, I may spook the deer before they get a chance to get out to the field. If it makes any difference, it is only supposed to be around 2 or 4 mph and I will be in a blind. Jeramie
It will make a difference. You will be on the ground which puts you in direct line with their nose. I personally see more deer at last light. I wouldn't chance spooking at dark... Just be sure to sit still in a blind or not... deer are sharp. Also, if one comes in and spooks a little sit quietly and let it pass. As a young hunter I believed I could call a deer in if they spooked, if I saw one crossing a field, etc. It didnt work. I typically just told them were I was and were to avoid. If one spooks sit quietly and it will mill on. It will possibly give you a chance at another deer but at the very least wont blow your cover for future hunts.
rhine16
Any last minute advice? Best advice I can give you is to hunt and make your own mistakes and learn from them. Relax and enjoy it.
redkneck
Best advice I can give you is to hunt and make your own mistakes and learn from them. Relax and enjoy it. Amen to that. Don't think about it so hard, if it were all down to a magic formula we'd all have booners on the wall. Just give it a solid effort and go for it. There is rarely a perfect hunt, with perfect wind, it almost always blows from all directions at sometime during the hunt, no matter what the weather man says (at least here in the southeast it does). Good luck.
whitetailfreak55
Like what was said above just relax and enjoy it. Its more about the hunt and the experiances then a deer(even though its nice to have a Buck)!
ApexPredator
Any last minute advice? Maybe set some good cover scent so if your wind changes you have something blowing around you. Step in some deer poop if you find any! Enjoy! I'll be hunting upstate SC in 1 month exactly!
