coffee question

So me and my buddy was out putting stands up and we were just having conversation while doing so. He was telling me he can't wait to get in the tree stand an kick back and relax with the sound of the woods and a good cup of coffee. Coffee? Really? One coffee causes peeing which isn't cool in a treestand and if I can smell it brewing a dang deer can smell it for sure. I simply said "you drink coffee while deer hunting?" one or two and only in the mornings he said! Am I being too anal or am I thinking coffee doesn't belong on hunting trips?

coffee question

See, that kills me right there. Guys gotta Marlboro hanging out one side of his mouth, cup of coffee underneath his seat and drawn back on a hawg. I put so much time and effort getting as scent free as possible, staying motionless on stand... And I live in a traditional big buck pipeline area of Ohio and it still takes so much to seal the deal wind or no wind. Someone please tell me if I need to take a carton and a pot of java to the deer woods

I don't drink coffee on stand, but I don't worry about pee too much either. I've let loose from the stand and have peed in scrapes before. It has attracted deer just as much as it has spooked them in my experiences.

I also do not worry about peeing from a stand. Studies have been done to show that deer do not associate that with humans for some weird reason. As for coffee, I do not partake before and when hunting because of smell on my breath.

No coffee for me but I too have peed from the stand and in scrapes. I'll pee in a scrape before I put any other type of attractant in it. From what I have read/studied, all urine breaks down the same. Once it sits for "x" amount of time it all smells the same.

I sure enjoy my coffee in the morning off the back porch of our camp...not while I'm hunting though. That's why I'm usually up ~2 1/2 hours before the crack of dawn at our camp. That way I can relax with a cup or coffee or 2...sometimes 3, visiting with a buddy or 2 then get the morning move out the way (very improtant) before I hit the shower, brush my teeth, etc., etc., etc....before I make my way to where I'm going to hunt. If you think I'm crazy getting up that early...you're not alone. I have some hunting buddies that think My best buddy & I are nuts too & some won't even get out of bed until I'm heading out the door to go hunt.

BTW...I know some of you say it's OK to just pee off your stand. I have no problem with that for scent concern reasons, especially hunting midwestern whitetails. But...what the heck do you do when due to a certain wind direction or whatever, you're only choice is wetting down your ladder, sticks, pull up rope, or whatever & then you have to handle it or climb down through it later. I know I've been there many times with only one direction to choose to go and wouldn't go that way. Heck no!!! Ain't happenin!!! I almost always carry a pee bottle for that reason alone. In the 10 years I've been a member here I don't ever recall anyone that always chooses to pee off their stand fessing up to that even being an issue. Does it not even bother you knowing your favorite hunting gloves are now wet & it isn't water?

I'm from East Texas.......nothing bothers me. :D Not really.

Now why am I not surprised Cory! :clown:

Al--if the wind is an issue, I get down and make a mock scrape, but that's pretty rare.

Didn't think of this at the time but I guess you could stock up on surgical gloves Chris...doubt you do and carry them in your pack though. ;)

I've just been wondering what y'all have been doing over the years. Finally couldn't resist the opportunity to ask. :clown:
