535hunter
I have seen a few post about people numbering there arrows and writing down information on that specific arrow. What info do you take down. Im thinking about trying it. Any insight?
bowhunter97
i used to number them just because i would know which one to nock first. It would go from my best flieing arrow the the arrow that wasnt as great. But i didnt take down info. Hunting is for fun and food imo so why get into it so far? If my arrows fly good thats all i need to know.
hoosierhunter
Fun and food.............. If you really look at hunting that way then I suggest you go to the store and buy a video game and some hamburger and have all the fun and food you want. That just means you are not taking your responsibility seriously enough as a hunter.
abrown
I still number them! The main reason is when I'm sighting my bow in, if I'm dead on with arrow #1, and arrow #2 is slightly off, alot of times it'll have to do with vane clearance, then I know exactly how postion my knocks. This also applies with broadhead tuning, it helps when you get one of the arrows tuned, you can tune the rest to the same. After tweeking each arrow and knowing how each arrow flies, they all fly the same.
535hunter
I kind of figured it was something along those lines. Just wasnt sure what the person ment by saying they numbered them. If you read between the lines of posts theres a ton of ideas and great information. I bought my bow back in April and practice at twenty yards regularly so all the info i can gather before i head out to the woods in October is very helpful. Hoosier are you qouting 97? Im a bit confused since theres a question mark in his post. To me its not a game. I love the woods even though i havent been hunting for that long. Ive grown up camping, fishing, hiking and all outdoor topics, been around a ton of hunters so i learned alot about respecting it. Not trying to start anything just asking for information thats all. 535hunter
Ok. I noticed your post about spines. You know alot about arrows? I got my bow and arrows from Bass Pro shops and they set me up with 4560 carbon furys. I dont know what that equates to but i would like to know for other brands. bowhunter97
OK hoosierhunter what is hunting to you? For me it is a way to get away from the teen drama and it puts food on the table and i love being in the outdoors weather in shooting my pellet gun, bow, riding the fourwheeler ect. And when i said fun the was intended as fun as in seeing the game and looking at the land. And i do get dissapointed/frustrated when a bad shot happens. And it happens to the best hunters out there. I am just a intermediate hunter i wouldnt call myself a pro because by all means im not. I still do make rookie mistakes here and there. And incase you have forgotten im still 15 my responsibility is just getting started. Granted i take more responsibility for my actions than most of the kids out here. The kids over here will go out and blow their money on random stuff when i buy my most of my own hunting equipment myself. 535hunter
Well lets break the tension. you say you buy all your own equipment? that's pretty good for a fifteen year old. i remember busting my butt on the farm for 12 or more hours a day just to make 5 bucks an hour. its hard but honest work and I'm damn proud of what i bought with my own money the same way i am today. Where do you hunt? what are you using?
hoosierhunter
Numbers. 535 it shows they are 9.9 gpi. Those are actually plenty heavy for a 600 spine arrows. Usually arrow spines that light are closer to 7gpi which hurts your penetration a great deal. If I remember right your shooting 57lbs and a 100 grain head. I wouldn't change anything there. hoosierhunter
Numbers. 97 your post indicated that your not taking the hunting responsibility seriously enough. 15 or not you have to do everything possible to ensure a ethical harvest. bowhunter97
I buy MOST of mine. These past 2 years i have bought my own clothes and other equipment. My dad bought my bow and my guns but that is why i said MOST of it. I worked this past summer to start saving for a car, and buy my clothes this year. I give all you guys who have cars 2 thumbs up. It must be hard working all week paying bills, gas and buying equipment for you and your family. And that is by all means not sarcasm. bowhunter97
Also i dont totally what a hunters responsibility is besides putting food on the table.
535hunter
Its all good. The real pay off is when you get to spend the weekend with the family and the woods. What kind of car do you want?
bowhunter97
Probably a small truck like an s10, trailblazer, or ranger something small and not bad on gas.

535hunter
I have a ranger with a 4.0 in it and it isnt bad but not great on gas. Im guessing your somewhere in the south with the picture you got so two wheel drive wont be bad unless you get into the back woods. Im from the north and if you look at my pics youll notice one day its nice and dry the next ten inches of snow so a 4x4 is in demand. What equipment do you have? I just picked an api climber stand and am thankful i have an extended cab truck. I know some people hunt and use cars and theres absolutely nothing wrong with that but the benefits of a truck speak loudly. Besides a little blood in the bed of a truck vs in the trunk of a car is well much easier to clean. Lol
bowhunter97
Lol and i normally hunt out of a home made ladder stand. And the climber i use i cant remember the maker of. Its actually my dads that is only like 23 lbs so he lets me use it cause its comfy and its light so i can carry it into and out of the woods with no problem. And my bow is a 2009 diamond razor edge set at like 57- 58 lbs. i had it maxed out at 60 but backed it down a little for season. I shoot easton flatlines 500's with muzzy 3 blade broadheads. 535hunter
I just recently bought my first which is a 2012 razors edge set at 60. Shooting 4560 red head carbon fury with 100 grain muzzy phantom mx 4. Its a fun bow. Small and compact. Just put winners choice string and cables on it, trophey ridge quiver, limbsaver 4.5 stabilizer, norway string tamer, pro hunter single pin, new peep, and got most of my arrows quick fletched with blazer veins. For the price of the bow i couldnt go wrong and i didnt want to spend a ton on my first one. That went out the window. But with the size its light weight and easy to carry not to mention much smaller than other bows for a good brush bow. Id like to start shooting 3d targets but im limited to 20 yard paper for now. In time. Just bhoping everything goes right the first time i get one in range.
dbHunterNY
i don't take down info really, but do number my arrows. easier to pick out the ones that fly well if you always see certain numbered arrows in the bullseye. not something you need to do or that always indicates better shooting arrows. sometimes you have maybe 6 arrows and they all seem to be on target. if all your arrows are shooting good then i wouldn't complicate things by numbering them.
