Bow questions.

Sorry for all of the questions about bows, but I'm trying to do as much research as I can before I purchase a bow. I will try to keep them all on this thread. I have found some Martins in the price range I am looking for, but I also found an AR 31 bow by Archery Research. Does anybody know anything about this brand of bow? I have never even heard of it. Here is the link: AR 31 BOW ARCHERY RESEARCH 31 BOW 29-31" 70lb RH | eBay

SC, I don't have any experience with AR or know anyone who does. I know you're trying to not spend a pretty penny and that's fine but I would strongly urge you to go to a local archery shop and talk with them about your wants and needs and price range, they should be able to understand exactly what it is your looking for and point you in the right direction, not saying the people on here can't but you should really try and touch and feel the bow you're purchasing because they all have different weight distributions, let-off percentage etc. etc. Most archery shops will have used bows they sell and you may be able to get something fully equipped, if not I have heard good things about Martins, Mission by Mathews, PSE, Bowtech and the list goes on and on (I personally shoot Mathews and love it but you will pay for it), it's all a matter of preference and price point. Many options out there and it can be overwhelming but Good Luck!

Excellent advice right there. I have purchased bows off the internet, but I had shot them and knew exactly what I wanted and ordered from a reputable archery shop. Also, I'm in the sticks and not tons of shops around here. If you do end up ordering something off ebay you should avoid off-brands, and in no way am I bashing AR bows, but they are going to be more difficult to find a dealer on should you have issues. Best bet is to follow the advice given above.

If you're just dead set on something new, look at this:

Whitney's Hunting Supply : Bear Encounter 60#, Right Hand Model - A25027326R

I looked at several different sights, that's about the best deal I found, just transfer your sights and rest over and you'll have a shooter. Only other things you'll find in that price range is some older models like Hoyt Katera, Trykon, I can't remember the Mathews models that far back, but you will likely not find a switchback in that price range. Still lots of bows for any budget, but you're going to have to step back to about 4y/o models. Best advice is to find a shop and make friends with the tech.

I don't know if you will be able to find an adult good working bow with everything you need for that price... the sights, rests and stabilizers on a used bow would go for no less than $100 I would have to guess and then the cost of the bow? One thing also to keep in mind when buying a used bow is the age of the strings, if the strings are any more than 3 or 4 years old and not well maintained then chances are you will need new strings which are going to go anywhere from $50 to $150 depending on where you go and what types of strings (most local shops recommend replacing strings every 2 years but if you keep up with wax and depending on how much you use it will add or subtract from that time span)
