Couldn't imagine hunting without Riflehunter 1000!

So I've managed to shoot in a 3D archery league quite well without my Nikon Riflehunter 1000, but I still feel lost without it. was chuck hunting earlier this week and it didn't turn on. this had me worried, but i swapped out the battery for a new one and it's working again. a little bit of weight was off my shoulders. wouldn't feel comfortable shooting at a deer past 30 yards without it, but now my range is extended again. it has the ability to shoot through thicker cover and it'll do true yardage for angle compensation. also at low light the display info is illuminated in red.

yup learned that too. makes you at ease knowing it's on. my harness and climbing gear is all in working order, already checked that. it's just a good feeling when certain trusty equipment is still good to go as the season approaches. i wouldn't have been happy if my rangefinder was broke and it wasn't just the battery.

Going with a lifeline by HSS...along with my HSS vest... was climbing up last fall and my knee locked up!! could not go up or down! worked it for a bit and then it freed up and I went the rest if the way up.

dont use a rangfinder much, pretty much know my distances from all my stands

From what I am seeing that is very true. I am only comfortable to about 25-30 with the bow so will not be taking any shots further than that. If I can't call em closer or entice more then they will walk. This is my first year bow hunting. Also I did buy a rangefinder for this reason. Just stating I'm pretty close out to 100yds.

My knife is with me 24/7 hunting or not hunting. Whenever I go hunting I pack 2 more knives in my daypack for a total of 3. That way I don't need to bring a sharpener.

Besides my weapon (bow, handgun or rifle) I always have my binos and my range finder, a map or aerial photo printed off Google Earth, and my compass. Also a large flashlight, dragging rope, 2 game bags in case I have to leave half the carcass behind hanging in a tree to retrieve later, and other things.

The Leupold RX-1000 is always with me. Other than a 10 or 20 yd shot, I will always use it. Your mind always plays tricks on you about how distant a buck might be.

I don't use a rangefinder....mark out 20 and 30 rangers with orange flagging...seems to work well...

That works if you have a static stand, and you don't mind walking all over it spreading around your scent in it. Making a range card with a range finder is a faster, requires less movement, and contaminates the grounds near your stand less.

My stand is merely a hunting chair, and I move it from time to time. A range finder is faster, so much to this tree, so much to that one, etc.

yea that very well could be true. us judging ranges is based on information or things we already know. for instance you could tell something might be close to a 100 yards because it looks to be close to a football field away. not many things we come across are farther away or longer.
