hoythunter88
I shot the 3 blade and couldnt get them to fly right out if my bow. I switched to the 2 blade and love them. I agree with some of the others thou sounds like maybe sticking with the muzzys would be yer best option. As far as the 20 deer a year. I live in michigan and up until this year u could buy 5 doe tags a day until the state quote was filled. This year they have cut is back to 10 total. 10 is still more than enough for one person. [email protected]
I live in Florida and u can kill one deer a day here, thats why i kill so many, plus i have two extra hunts one in Kentucky and one in Illinois. Move to Florida you can whackem and stackem!!!!!! Edited September 17, 2012 by [email protected]
speedjunkiejp
Re: 2 or 3 blade rage You must have a big family to feed. That's also a reason why Florida will never be known for big deer.
Maine Hntr
why do I need to whack and stack that many deer from one state? Is that considered management?
robbiethekid
2 or 3 blade rage I have to agree with jase on the wack em and stackem as I kill about 25-30 deer per season from start of now season to end of general fire arms. But my kills are primarily for management. As the Land I own at my house is very populated and many of the clubs I hunt with are very large farms where mass amounts of Doe taking are done under DMAP and DCAP. I also donate quite a bit to hunters for the Hungary. But I think that much killing does have to have a purpose and not just be done for glory. Just my opinion. As for broad heads lol muzzy max3 100 gr. all the way!
[email protected]
Because me and my family have five 500+ acre farms
CamoGuy
I would go with Muzzy's. In spite of what some may think, there is a slight loss of kinetic energy (penetration power) with mechanicals. That split second that it takes for the blade/arrow to slow down slightly as the broadhead opens translates to less penetration. If you were shooting a 70# bow then it becomes moot, but when shooting a short draw with a lower poundage you are taking a double hit (loss of energy from a smaller arrow and loss of energy from a slower arrow). That translates into less penetration. Then if youi are taking shots that are 25-30 yards you have an arrow that is traveling even slower on impact which can result in the aforementioned "flopping arrow". I came up with even lower numbers than hoosierhunter. I am guessing that your bow is around 300FPS. Using a 25.5" Flatline 500 with a 100 grain broadhead you will only have an actual arrow speed of 263FPS and kinetic energy of 40.73. By most standards, that is pretty low for mechanicals. Zizzer59
2 or 3 blade rage What's the formula you use to find that?
WStreblo
2 or 3 blade rage I used the muzzy 4 blade broad heads forever then right before bow season last year I couldn't find them. Bought a pack of rage 3 blades and they do blow massive holes in a deer. However, now I find myself trying to figure out the averages of one opening during flight or not opening on impact... Just one more thing I seem to find myself thinking at that moment of truth. I used to always be broke until I landed this job so I hate to waste money, gonna keep using these rages until.... I agree with a lot of the boys in here, go fixed
boar54
Which one would you suggest that i get? This will probably make a difference but i am shooting about 58 lbs and at a 25.5 inch draw. With easton flatlines 500's I agree with hoosier I dont think you have enough energy to make an exspandable work very well.
Ravin R10 man
Im going to try the chisle tip..have had no issues with Rage, other than the o rings, but on the other hand, fixed blades need to be changed out too I shoot Gold tip 5575 at 31 inch draw bow set at 55# no problem with blades not opening Edited October 5, 2012 by Mathews XT Man
bowhunter97
My buddy's original rage 2 blades open no problem. Granted he has speed from his alphamax but he is only shooting 60 lbs.
ruttinbuc
This debate is forever. Mechanical heads in no way shape or form can compete with a fixed head. http://www.booneman.com/_terminalarrow.php Edited October 5, 2012 by ruttinbuc
