Playing the wind.

I'm starting to not believe the whole playing the wind thing. Now I'm not saying that you don't want to be downwind of the deer, but I'm starting to think its impossible. I was sitting in my stand today and watched the steam from my Thermacell blow in all directions. I've come to the conclusion that if you don't hunt a good stand or not hunt at all because of the wind, you're only hurting yourself. Come to think of it, I've never sat in a stand and only had the wind blow in 1 direction the whole time.

maybe it just depends on where your hunting at. i know in my case i have three places to hunt on private land. a 52 acre that has a lot of pressure on the back side of it since its public so i dont think deer worry to much about the wind besides its covered pretty well. the next is about 25 acres behind my inlaws place and it borders a few houses, a cow pasture and some houses so again i dont think its a big deal there either but the third is about 140 acres of open pasture and woodland areas. i would say that is when it becomes a big deal to play it right. but im no expert so thats my opinion on my hunting spots. others will surely have different opinions and it is what it is. are you in an open field or in the timbers?
