elkoholic
Sorry to say deer season ended here this past Sunday and the big mature buck I was hoping for never materialized. I did see a fair number of young bucks but overall deer movement was very low. It probably had something to do with the weather as it rained almost every day that I hunted and I looked like a drowned rat for most of the season. That's the way it goes. Time to shift gears and try a little wolf hunting. I just hope we get some snow. Congratulations to all the successful hunters and good luck to all who are still hard at it. dbHunterNY
hunted edge of some thick stuff behind my house. had three doe and two fawns come in to within 20 yards away, just on the other side of the creek. nothing in tow. so the does must have already come in and the fawns not up to 70 or 80 pounds yet to be receptive. seen little bucks cruising lately but action has died quite a bit. i actually walked around a little behind the house where i've stayed out of all this year. found a few rub lines. pictures of one line are below. it's been used year after year so far and i think next season i'll put a set somewhere along it.... swohiodave
Hey guys, sorry i have been away from the keyboard for a while. I have been busy hunting, working, and having sick kids. It is looking like rain all weekend. With the rut winding down here I am going to start looking to shoot a doe or two. Last weekend I have a few small bucks come by but nothing to shoot at just yet. We are getting into my favorite part of hunting season. Most guys are finished or giving up after Ohio gun season. I came home the other day and my wife had a new pair of insulated overalls waiting for me for the cold weather.

dbHunterNY
so this weekend we put on some drives. saw handfuls of deer with each drive at my great grandmother's old farm but nothing remotely close to a shooter. went to my parent's farm to do a couple drives that are always productive. we were trying to get my little cousin his first deer/buck. first drive i was a driver and saw around a dozen or more deer. no bucks spotted by anyone including myself. second drive i took him into my primary gun treestand. it's on hardwood ridge that funnels down between to bigger sections of timber. i set him up at the base of the tree and i climbed up into the stand to be right with him and be a look out. ended up working close to perfect seeing probably 30+ deer. 25 or so on slow run by within 10 yards of my treestand with my little cousin at the base of the tree. he expressed multiple times that he really liked the spot and "could throw a baseball and hit them". only downside was not a single buck came through and i got a clear view of every deer too. this next weekend is late bow/muzzleloader. i'm thinking about trying to take a day off to make it a three day weekend. dbHunterNY
What you need to do is find the critter that makes those!!!....jk Some tough teams at it this year..unless I get dat turdy ptr in late bow......we wont come close looking like the second year in a row i'm going the season without taking a shooter buck. still hoping but hard to expect much getting this late with not much for food sources still standing. one of them got shot by the neighbors and then the other good one that may have been the culprit got shot at by the other neighbors half a dozen times. swohiodave
This has been a slow season. Not much doe action here. Seen lots of little bucks. Still a month and a half to go.

dbHunterNY
well it's late season (bow/muzzleloader) here. with tomorrow being the last day of the season for me, as the season ends mid this coming week, i shot downed a doe with the muzzleloader and took a pictures this time. the one before this one was much bigger and probably several years old. this one was a little younger. once i edit the tag picture to block out some personal info i'll post them in the photo thread for some points. not that it matters much for catching up in points. at least my freezer is full. dbHunterNY
just posted doe pictures for points... is anyone from our team still out hunting? not sure. weighed the processed and trimmed meat from the 2nd to last doe i got and it came to 52 lbs. figure that put the 2nd to last doe at least 150 lbs field dressed weight. season still feels incomplete not getting a buck though. deer slayer
Congrats on the doe.. I'm still hunting our season ends Jan. 20th I think. I've been down with the flu though so I haven't been out in about a week.

Ravin R10 man
Thanks for posting your doe..seems our team just isnt able to come up with alot of bucks..very tight competition this year.
dbHunterNY
had several good ones fall to the neighbors including an 11-pointer. next year i feel it'll be slim pickings. just about all the bucks i've seen have been wiped out. i'll be thinking more about hunting bow only public ground next year as a backup. arrow32
Hey everyone! Sorry for not being able to check in. My phone got stolen and I am right now trying to find someone to get me the pics from my deer I got. I'll be sick if I can't get the pic. Pretty sure I have someone who has them. I hadn't uploaded them to the computer yet. Will be hunting monday work gave us the day off. So hoping to get it!
swohiodave
Hey team, just stopping by to check in. It seems like it is always raining or 20 mph winds lately. I still have all of January and the first weekend of Feb. to hunt and will be out. Everyone on the farm I am hunting on is having the same luck as I. STINKS! Well the problem is the yoties tore him all up so the only thing I could save was the head and antlers. If I tag him and take a pic of me and the head can I enter him?
