Saw a real nice 8 pt.trying to cut a doe off on Friday at our logging job..drove right up to the doe with the forwarder as she was standing by my truck looking very spooked, ....THEN I seen him behind some a pile of tops..trying to keep her from going where she wanted to..he was working her like a cutting horse works cattle....rut is kicking in in Northern WIS.

yea things are kicking in here in NY too. nothing much to report this past weekend. although my dad and brother spotted some bear working on through the property. sounds like they could've headed into this swamp and right by one of my trail cams. i'll check it tomorrow when i'm there after work (after dark). tonight i believe i'm headed to the archery shop to setup a new stick bow that arrived at my door.

Went out saturday and called a nice looking 8pt to within 50 yards but he avoided the opening in from of my like his life depended on it!!! I found out the guy that stole my camera card also helped himself to my other camera card as well. This means it was a hunter on the farm for sure as my cameras are in woods on each side of a road. I saw a pic of an old wide 8pt he shot on the farm and didnt tell anyone (someone found it on facebook and sent the pic to the family). I reported this theft to the owners wife and am going to let them deal with it. Hopefully that was the last straw and this guy is gone. My buddy is going to speak with his aunt about it as well as he is the one related to the owners.

Just a quick update. I haven't seen anything I wanted to shoot yet, but there seems to be plenty of doe and small buck this year. I did see a wolf Sunday afternoon, but unfortunately he saw me at about the same time and took off not offering any shot opportunity. It would have been nice to fill my wolf tag. Also, had the chance to watch an ermine out on a hunting foray and had him come within a few feet to check me out. With a cold front moving in at the end of the week, the rut heating up and the probability of more snow there should be some good hunting next week. Good hunting everyone!

Got not so good news this afternoon... the neighbors to the more promising property i hunt shot a big 3.5+ yr old 8 and a big old 11 pt. not sure how many more 3.5+ yr olds are around on that farm.

I don't think I'll be able to enter my deer because I don't have a picture of him with a tag. It was dark when I tagged and called him in so I couldn't take a picture, then when we got him home I took it off because where I hunt we have to cut the head off the deer to be tested for CWD and the game warden don't want the tag on the deer. So we fill out a paper that we give to the dnr with the head. I think I still have the filled out tag somewhere but it ain't on the deer.

i don't think the tag has to be with the deer. you have to be with the deer. after that you just need a picture of the tag, which can be by itself. if you still have it just take a picture. still have more tags for this season? if so good luck! congrats again!

do what you can..we really need your deer to be counted..thanks!

on another note..got my tower back up today, after a wind storm took it down this summer. only a few days from gun opener, got my brother to come help get the base built, posts dug & set and squared up with a base to set the tower back on it. Used skid steer with pallett forks to right it..get under it and lift it up and back onto platform..and just had to back out from under it, the post were allowed to be higher than the platform so they held the tower as I backed away..then i just had to screw in the torques head screws to stabilize it all. Then took an hour with chain saw to brush my shooting lanes back out,,Im back in the hunt!! Got ashleys tower and heater ready too. Now if I can just get the last of the corn off and disk chisle the ground by Friday i can relax!!!

Well.....the owner of the farm i hunt on confronted the guy that stole my camera cards and showed him pics we have of him in an area he is not supposed to be hunting. Come to find out he has a stand in that area. My cards appeared in a card case wedged in one of my stands. I was told he is not allowed to come back next season, excellent news! Friday I saw a buck chasing a doe and that was it. Sunday I had 4 does come up behind me and a button buck but no shot. I was in my climber about 40 yards up from my ladder stand and the deer were right on me but i was facing the wrong way. I saw another 8pt about 60 yards up hot on a trail.... i scoped out a tree to hunt off of that trail, again about forty yards up from me to the other tree.
